map skyboxes screwed up

ever since 2 weeks ago i've been having a problem on an increasing number of maps (at first gullywash, and more every few days) where the skybox is replaced by the missing texture thing (black/purple squares)

it's pretty annoying and verifying the game cache hasn't done anything to fix it. can anyone help?

Do you use a custom hud?

yeah but it has no materials folder, which is where i think custom skyboxes are located

bump its not my hud, happens with stock hud as well
