glorydoes anyone know why its not for xbox one?
i like it alot but its exclusive for pc and ps4 only
Sony wanted it on PS4, Hello Games said okay but you have to treat us like a first party game basically (this is an indie company) and commit to marketing our game extremely hard including having NMS at Sony's 2014 E3 Media conference (the first indie game to be center stage at one) and Sony said OK when no one else (incl. Microsoft) did.
That's about it.

The NMS team signed a contract that would grant Sony the release rights to the game 4 days earlier than on PC in exchange for the help funding and marketing the game. Steam accidentally just didn't change the date back for whatever reason and then corrected it.

This is not entirely correct.

New YorkerTwo weeks later, on Christmas Eve, a tributary of the Thames overflowed in Guildford, flooding the Hello Games studio. Murray rushed over and found laptops floating in waist-deep water; tens of thousands of dollars’ worth of equipment was destroyed. Sony’s offer of assistance remained, but Murray told me that he did not ask for funding. Unlike Hollywood, the video-game industry is marked by a vast chasm between big-budget productions and independent ones, and he had learned with Joe Danger that a small studio could easily become beholden to a distributor. Instead, he requested Sony’s help in securing a place for No Man’s Sky at the Electronic Entertainment Expo, or E3, the largest gaming trade show in America. No independently produced title had ever been featured on the main stage, but, as he recalled, “I said—and this was really cocky—‘We want to own E3.’ They were, like, ‘That’s not going to happen,’ but we pushed for it. We traded working for them for being onstage.”

Polygon"We were actually going to announce a release date at E3 2015, but for reasons we can't. We'll announce a release date soon, and when we do, it will be for PC and PS4 simultaneously."
PC version was delayed most likely to make sure it isn't complete trash on PC.
e: Also Steam Developers themselves set the date now, not Valve, so it was Hello Games who had it set to simultaneous launch then delayed it.

This is no bueno
They apparently just ported it directly from the PS4 library https://twitter.com/gibbed/status/764155970767519744
It's practically just an emulated PS4 game, not even a port.

what did people seriously expect? hyping for no reason an "awesome epic revolutionary" game made by who? Hello games, 15 man dev team, and what have they done in the past? Bunch of joe danger games.
why was it so hyped in the first place?

sue me but i actually enjoyed spore.
it probably helps that it ran fairly well, had a solid art style, and didn't promise an infinite universe. NMS runs like shit, looks like shit (all the promo art is great but every single ingame screenshot is trash), and promised the fucking world and beyond.

Battleborn. This game's PC release was a fucking disaster and it's gratuitously overpriced but it made some good bank given its tiny dev team. Battleborn cost more than every Borderlands game combined or some shit, got utterly crushed by Overwatch, and was on the humble bundle for 15 bucks like a month and a half into its lifetime.
Evolve is a good contender too.

The PC release wasn't the only disaster. The entire game across all platforms performs and looks like crap, and is full of empty promises.
Without knowing anything about this game prior to its launch, it if launched on Early Access on PC only, it would just be the survival game of the month, that's all. This is literally abandoned EA garbage sold as a full title.

I think it's inherently bad, but that's besides the point. It's undeniably a flop. Lukewarm critical reception, gen pop made its crashing failure into a meme, no playerbase a month into launch, humble bundle within two months, they even introduced microtransactions in a 60 dollar game that offered a 20 dollar season pass at launch.
It and Evolve are the golden standard of how NOT to handle a video game. At least Evolve had a stronger playerbase at launch and has slightly recovered by going f2p.

Oh, for sure. It was a clumsy launch all around. But at least the fuckin' thing runs on consoles. Crashes, stutters, audio cutting out. I watched ster try to stream it and he had to modify an ini file to get his fov to 100 because apparently the slider wasn't working, and the inventory kept showing controller buttons instead of keyboard hotkeys. I watched tagg's stream and he got in a ship and the frames literally dropped to, like, 2. Console players at least got a working game.

I didn't follow the hype and always thought it was single player, so these lies and framerate issues aside, is the game good?
I have a good enough PC to get some fps I think and idc about multiplayer, I'm waiting for star citizen for that. If the game actually offers cool exploration and real content and is not just empty random gen wastelands without gameplay, I'd like to pick it up.
Also props for making the first ps4 emulation I guess

It got as hyped up as it did thanks to Sony. The game isn't worth a $60 tag at all. It's an indie game in its entirety, and while the concept of it is great and should've been multiplayer, it's pretty repetitive outside of finding new, different looking planets with monsters that look like the game hit the random option on the character creation screen (not a bad thing in this case), and it should have been at most $30, if that. Oh well, on to the next hype train surely to result in disappointment.

What can you actually do in game? Is there significant gameplay other than walking around on the planets? Do the creatures attack in various ways or have some sort of interesting behaviors? Is there any form of character progression?
I know I could google this and watch videos but if I'm gonna get it I'd like it unspoiled.
