It might just be regional but idk 75% of people I know say "zee" too.

I remember we convinced this american girl who'd moved up here that not only do we pronounce it zed, but we change how we say things with it like Zedbra instead of Zebra, and Zed Zed Top instead of ZZ Top. She was so baffled and could not even.

actually most of the world say zed due to the fact that most countries were under control of the British Empire at some point in time when English was not a spoken language in those countries. When the British took over these countries, natives were taught British English. English became such a popular language thanks to the British and to this day people speak the English that their ancestors were first taught. America is different because the Americans decided to change the language a little. I'm pretty sure Webster had a huge role in changing a lot of British English words to what we know today.
