There are two main NA TF2 leagues: UGC, and ESEA. ESEA is a paid league, and only has 6s. UGC is a free league, and has divisions for both 6s and highlander.
If you are new to competitive TF2 and want to find a team to play spy for, you should try to find a UGC Steel highlander team to join.

Here is where you can post an LFT thread of your own, for teams to find you and offer a tryout if they want: http://www.ugcleague.net/forum/forumdisplay.php?6-North-America
This forum isn't a good place to find highlander teams, as it's mostly focused on ESEA and 6s.
