Fps drops dramatically while damaging enemies

This only recently started and I usually get around 60~100fps normally but now when I hit enemies the frames go way low and then once I stop my frames go back to normal. It's very hard to play like this (especially as pyro). I'm using cowmanglia's config in dx8. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I guarantee it's your HUD. Try removing it or use a different HUD.

Specifically, it's a problem with the Damage numbers. Every time you shoot and hit an enemy, you lag, and the afterburn damage from pyro that you mentioned earlier causes you to lag even more due to the flamethrower's constant damage.
