Recording Clips/Highlights

So, basically I want to make a frag video. I have the demos and everything and I was wondering what the best way to record it was, is it still going through the Lawena process?

Assuming it is Lawena, can someone explain or send a video that shows how to record everything through that process cause I remember virtual dub being involved somewhere in there or something.

Any help is appreciated, thanks.

I use source recording tool. Apparently no one else does but it is really nice.

I personally didn't have a good experience with Lawrena (it wiped all of my cfgs and custom folder and i couldn't find where the files got moved to), but I actually use the recording software that I got with my graphics card, shadowplay if you're an Nvidia user. Believe the name of it is the plays.tv recorder or something like that.

It did that but once I stopped running it the program it just disappeared. Not going to dwell on it that much since it happened a long time ago but either way I'm doing what you do since I find it a little more convenient

Lawena is still highest quality but it takes longer. Essentially what is does is take a bunch of pictures and then virtual dub makes it into an enormous avi file. It is harder to just put in a basic frag clip because you need to prerender clips for a good preview. If you are making a basic frag movie just use fraps or shadowplay. If you are putting smooths throughout the video and are going to spend more than one day editing, use lawena. This tutorial is still pretty decent https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_21UdXQfg5U but if you have questions you can feel free to add me.

Alright, gonna put the Lawena problems to rest.

Yes, it takes longer. I believe this is the price you pay for absolutely incredible quality.
It moves your cfg AND custom files into its own directory. If "Lawena deleted my custom files/cfg and I don't know where they went," then you didn't click stop tf2 in the actual Lawena window, which restores your custom files. I know, sometimes clicking the big red X at the top right seems like the best thing to do when you're done, but this doesn't allow the program to restore your files. If you run it again, and hit stop tf2 process, your custom files will return to how they were prior to being moved.

However, source recording tool is a really cool program, especially if you're on a deadline, and quality isn't as important.

If you don't want it to be of super high quality and you want a frag clip that resembles damneasy's or kaptain's, just use shadowplay/fraps. Nobody's going to judge you if you don't want super high graphics in your videos, It's all preference.

quick edit: missed that last line where you wanted to know how to use Lawena; here's a super sick guide by kirby & video by Beater AKA DanishActionHero

Hope this helps!
