winning a tournament in 2016 when the skill level in the game has been consistently decreasing for years makes you the best player now? are we gonna pretend like 2014 and 2015 never existed?

You mean EU will conveniently pretend 2012, 2014 and 2015 never existed while NA continues to insist that 2013 and 2016 don't actually matter and aren't real years anyway, they're fake years, most definitely?
Seems to have been working out so far, why stop when everyone is content with it this way and getting along?

Don´t get too real here. This is a romantic goodbye to a very special and talented player written in a very romantic time of TF2. The comparison to 2014/15 is irrelevant as starkie already back then was one of the best players and only his teams ( teammates) were not if I remember correctly. Starkie had a very deep understanding of the games mechanics in terms of strategic knowledge and mechanical skills. This in combination with his sick dm abilities made him always shine and stand out in his teams even when he played with the most dm heavy and therefore "popular cause MOG-plays" players arround him up until his last day These balance skillsets made him the best player for me personally atleast in the past 3 years - maybe even further back but I won´t admit that! I complete understand him slowly losing interest in this game and I appreciate him putting in the hours he did to raise the bar! It always bothered me winning premireship (for real) only once against a team that was not full of starkies or players of his calibre ( it honestly means nothing to me for that reason). The only thing that I think is a bit far fetched in the article is the epsilon legacy being at risk cause I believe that the individual skilllevel of players has increased over the past years but the overall quality of games or team depth has decreased. Please take my last comment with a grain of salt as I am very out of the loop with the current meta and happenings and I mainly form my opinions from occasionally watching a few games!
I don´t know what your future goals are but if you are not too occupied with studies or real life you should srsly go and cash out on that other game that is fairly popular these days. Good luck

I'm sure starkie also being on the only team that beat froyo at i55 was a complete coincidence. He is obviously very good at finding teams to carry him.

Stark reached a level of consistency and discipline with performing at an extremely high level that I don't think has been matched, and probably will never be matched. Sure like clockwork had marginally better dm, but he wasnt nearly as disciplined. Sure banny rivals his consistency, but stark had better dm.
We often say that clock was the best scout of all time but lets not forget that most of this was with froyo which are the standout best team of all time - of course he's going to shine with incredible players.
When it gets down to individual performance, you can't deny that Stark has been the best playmaker in tf2's history, he's been the standout player for almost every roster I can remember him playing with in the last few years, and it's largely because of the playmaking ability of players like him and drackk that the Crowns playstyle is centred around - the style that lead them to i58 victory.
He will no doubt go on to do great things, gaming or not.

Ooooh Mirelin :D
Regarding the topic I think it goes without saying that in the last few years starkie was simply unrivaled due to his really calculated gamestyle, he could do plays with a ton of impact without making negative impact on its team when they went wrong.
GL in your future endeavors man :)
