I have a GTX 970 and a i7 6700k quad core processor and my game is dropping to 70 fps on all low settings and in dx8. Idk what the issue is but it's pretty ridiculous, unless this game is just that shit
Yes, the optimalization of tf2 is utter garbage, but there's no way it's running 70 fps on that setup. Try switching to DX9

I was just on dx9 before I switched to dx8 :/

check your temps/resource usage
your cpu and video card might be getting throttled

is this in pubs? 70 fps would be a bit low for 32 player pubs if your cpu isn't OC'd but isn't unreasonably low for this game

sorry for not replying it was in highlander primarily, but now that i'm on a graphics config it only drops to ~120, still not all that satisfied though

120 is normal for most people, I think I have the same processor as you and I get a constant 150+

What's the clock speed of your CPU?
Do you have high performance mode enabled in your Power Options?

Check your CPU temps. I used to get like 20 fps and it was because my CPU can stopped working so it was downclocking its self so it didnt overheat. Replaced the can and it went back to normal
Use dxlevel 95 it gives an fps boost compared to dxlevel 90 depending on your gpu. You should also run tf2 on recommended video settings as they put more stress on your gpu and might give you a huge fps boost
