Ascent undergoes roster shuffles

With playoffs looming closer for ESEA Invite Season 26, teams have made an effort to secure their rosters as best as they can. However, a secure roster is not always guaranteed for many reasons inside and outside of playing TF2, and this is no exception for Ascent, who will be having soldier and owner Ma3laa step down from playing to focus on building the Ascent brand.

While Ascent focuses on the game, Ma3laa will focus on Ascent as a whole (picture by Ness "uberchain" Delacroix and Jasmine "Jasbutts" Ho)

In a tweet from the organization, Ma3laa was cited as wanting to focus on organizing Ascent as an organization rather than as a player. On his personal Twitch stream, he stated the following:

I’ve been looking to step down from starting for the team, because I have a lot of other stuff I’m working on - one of the things being Ascent itself. I’d like to focus on those things and just manage Ascent as well. It’s tough to play every night when I have a lot of other stuff to do. You have to play a lot and practice. People like showstopper and paddie are so much more into it than me, and I’m glad...I care more about Ascent winning over me winning, you know what I mean? I think that’s more important.

Ma3laa has been playing Invite since ESEA Season 13 with xensity in 2012. In Season 15, he played with Lost in Translation, a team that would later be sponsored by Exertus eSports before an organization merge with eLevate. The roster first represented Ascent in 2015 under former medic TheFragile’s organization and coaching, before being picked up by RONIN Esports and EVL Gaming in 2016, before finally being re-acquired by Ascent and Ma3laa in July.

To make up for the absence of Ma3laa, former Faint Gaming (now woodpig quantum) scout sandblast will be filling Ascent’s empty roster slot as scout. sandblast debuted in Invite in ESEA Season 24 in 2017 with mario party 4 before their sponsorship with Faint Gaming. To accommodate for sandblast, paddie will be rotating from pocket scout to pocket soldier, while showstopper will take on the roaming soldier role.

With Ma3laa watching them from the CEO chair, Ascent’s roster is now:

Scout: yomps
Scout: sandblast
Roamer: showstopper
Pocket: paddie
Demoman: Bdonski
Medic: Nursey
