Is it justified to throw if you believe that you are going to lose and have no chance of winning?
Why wouldn’t u just forfeit then instead of wasting peoples time
Giving up is an extremely negative aspect for anyone to have.
now if it's garbage time that's a completely different story because that's just straight up useless time

A match which you are sure to lose is an opportunity to gain experience and learn from your mistakes. Throwing these matches is a wasted opportunity.
you will probably not get better yourself if you dont play against better teams

plus even if you're going to get 5-0d you can try to break even or manage 300 dpm or win a mid or something. tf2 is a team game with plenty of opportunities for individual achievement.

i remember once playing vs Reason in some cup with my open team, hafficool ran pyro the entire game and raymon had a k/d of about 5 on medic.
how do you NOT throw in that game?

as long as the whole team is ok with it, don't just quit on your team
i throw if other team is winning 4-0 and theres only a few mins until timer runs out. usually people dont care by that point
You learn so much more from situations in life where you are losing rather than winning, generally speaking.
Better put, what do you gain from throwing? If you throw, you are the real loser, as you've decided to throwaway your present opportunity to persist. Time is precious and constantly expiring. If you're only playing to win, and not playing to play, you're missing the point entirely.

Not sure if this is directed at me, but I had a situation fairly recently where it was my team, mostly mid open players, vs b4nny + 5 invite players. We played 2 rounds seriously after we weren't allowed to forfeit the match, then threw to have fun with the game. To be completely honest, it's always a bad idea to come in thinking you don't have a chance, even if that is sometimes the case. When that does happen though, there has to be some sort effort to get the best outcome for your team, and if that means throwing and having fun, so be it (imo).
edit: shouldve mentioned this, but we were going to forfeit as there were schedule conflicts our players and we ended up with 2 ringers.

I remember having to play a 5v6 against a team that was significantly better than us and we just ended up throwing. I'm still not sure if it was a good idea but I know that it wouldn't have been fun to try and get destroyed round after round. Plus I think we gave them all the rounds so they could make playoffs. I think throwing in a 6v6 is not a good idea and should be looked down upon.
there's a difference between just throwing and making the game more fun by not playing exactly the same as you would in a tight match since you are probably going to lose.
I've seen throwing in any game as a desperate way of trying to be funny but crying deep inside, you know, like "lol this is funny but only for me, you wouldnt understand", as other people said, waste of time
it honestly depends on how high the stakes are and how many people on your team are ok with throwing. for example joining a 5 que csgo match at 2am with your 4 buds and throwing a game is complacently fine. The other team still gets elo and you get to have fun. Throwing in a 6v6 match in esea open where people on your team have paid good money to play. not cool.
its pretty obvious you shouldnt throw but its easier said then done, especially if you have played >4 maps that day it can get pretty stressful. i would only throw if the rest of my team is throwing and the loss is guaranteed, or to mentally reset for the next map.
you can always just pad your stats and try your best. I know it can be hard to keep fighting after playing so long but honestly you just need to stick to your guns and know that if you try and don't throw you at least get some rep in the community for not being a prick who throws matches.
Should TF2 have an option to forfeit during competitive? Maybe like all players on the forfeiting team have to click the Forfeit button. Not sure how you'd do it for ESEA, it'd probably require co-operation between them and Valve that would be a pipe dream, but let's imagine it's possible.
Would it be a bad/good idea and why? Discuss.

for esea it'd be easy. just give the option to start a !gg vote via client. they should probably have this. waiting for a team to put you out of your misery while you're getting slow rolled is awful

its only fun when your team throws too but offclassing is much more fun than throwing
Couldnt all the players on a team go spec if they want to forfeit or something like that?
Rallying your team and shifting the momentum back to pull something off against the odds is one of the most rewarding experiences you can have, so even if you manage to do something like that in 1 out of 100 games, it still should motivate you to try the same in the other 99. except of course its actual garbage time, where you can try something unorthodox and win a mid without expecting it.
something something try your best something something get better something something
