TF2 closing upon launch

Every time I launch TF2, it starts loading, but immediately closes when the main menu is about to appear.
I've tried switching HUDs and verifying the game cache, but to no avail. Can someone please help me?

have you tried deleting the dxlevel 95 in start options
if not do so and give feedback a$ap

what did you change when it started crashing? does it happen with -default in the launch options?
