I just bought a completely new system with amd parts:
motherboard: msi b350 pc mate (have not looked into updating bios yet - let me know if this is the problem and i will try that and get back)
Processor: ryzen 5 1600 with stock cooler
GPU sapphire pulse rx 580 (updated drivers yesterday)
550w psu from corsair
2x 4gb ram from corsair. this was rated at 2666, but on the bios it is at 2333 (or something similar) - so not at the advertised rate - i doubt this is the cause but i specified anyways
I used a 1tb hard drive from my old pc
here's the problem
When even I quit a game (gta 5, doom, tf2 - only three i have played so far), it quits to my desktop and then after about a secondm my screen goes black and says there is no input signal.
I use a dvi cable to connect to my monitor since my monitor doesnt have a hdmi slot.
The only solution i have so far is: when the monitor goes black, I plug in my tv with a hdmi cable, and unplug the vgi cable. This obv moves the display to the tv and it works. but when I try to plug the vgi cable back in, both screens go black.
If i then unplug vgi cable, my tv works fine.
I then shut off my pc using tv, then unplugged hdmi, plugged in dvi and turned on the pc. it worked, but then when i quit out of gta5 the screen went black again.
I have looked online, and lots of people have had trouble with rx cards and black screens. but it is mostly with the 2nd displays not being recognised, nothing to do with a monitor going black after quitting a game. I am fine with using a single monitor - it just keeps going black wheneven i quit a game.
I hope i dont have to retun the rx 580 and switch to something like a 1060 :(, and i also really dont want to play with a 32" tv screen 2 feet from my eyes.
Would the only possible solution be to get a monitor with a hdmi connection? Why does the rx card even have a vgi connector if it cant support it properly.
Any help would be appreciated. :)
esit: since it is a new motherboard i keep getnig an alert from windows saying to activate windows. But i would have to contact windows support to get that resolved

Most likely 2133. You need to enable the XMP profile.
Also in general "RAM from Corsair" and "PSU from Corsair" is about as helpful as "CPU from AMD".

DVI, VGI or VGA?
psu: corsair vs550
ram: vengence lpx 2x4gb ddr4 rated at 2666 mhz
what does enable XMP profile mean? is that something in the bios?
sorry about inconsistency, i have a VGI to VGi cable for my monitor, and a hdmi cable for my tv, but as i mentioned i can only use one at a time or i have to restart my pc.

Yes, in the BIOS.
Could you at least try to spell it correctly for once?
If my guess was correct and you're using a DVI to VGA adapter then your adapter is shit.
If you're using a DVI to VGA cable then it shouldn't work at all.
The RX 580 only supports DVI-D
Only DVI-I supports VGA.

I am not using VGA at all. I am using a DVI D cable - this

I'll try enabling XMP in the BIOS for the RAM.
I have no idea how you managed to fuck up spelling DVI so many times then.
XMP is unrelated so don't expect that to fix it.
Activate windows and do a clean driver uninstall with DDU. Just the uninstall. Then see what happens.
If it works reinstall the drivers and test again.

I don't know either.
I just uninstalled and reinstalled the display drivers while waiting for you to respond, and it might have fixed the black screen when quitting games problem (just quit GTA 5 fine). I will test this more with other games. I don't know if it has affected the not being able to have dual monitors problem
I am no longer getting the activate windows alert.
I'll post results after more testing.
Will enable XMP at a later date.

Ok after the reinstall all problems seem to have stopped. Can quit games without black screening, and can use monitor and TV with no problems. But I noticed some FPS drops - only happened twice while playing GTA 5, no biggie., and hasnt happened in tf2 or doom

You are going to want to update your bios. It makes a pretty big difference in memory compatibility for when you do decide to set the XMP settings.

i used to have similiar problem with rx 560
fixed it by decreasing gpu frequency by -33.5% and power boost 75% in wattman

I can quit games fine now without black screening after GPU driver reinstall (tested with gta 5 doom and tf2)
OK I've figured out another problem. I have a power splitter, it is a thing where you plug in your tower, and 2 peripherals into the same outlet so that they all turn off when you shut your pc down. The thing is, my new pc was drawing too much power, and my monitor and speakers (which were also plugged into this power splitter) weren't getting enough power. This has stopped my speakers cutting in and out as well.
