It's not necessarily hard to counter but for inexperienced open teams it could be something different that they're not used to. Unorthodox strategies can throw these kinds of teams for a loop. This is playoffs after all. It's been some time since viaduct was last played, and there is limited practice time between maps.

There's a number of heavy variations too that could make it different for the opposing team. All light classes (heavy with sniper) can solve the heals problem mason mentioned plus puts significant pressure on the enemy team while intercepting jumpers. Or they could run double gunboats heavy, 1 scout 1 solly 1 sniper, or whatever.

Some teams might whip a heavy strategy out mid match if things aren't going well and it's not like it requires a ton of practice to execute.
