The thing about TF2's cosmetics is that you can get your money back selling your items. Hell, if you're smart, you can even turn a profit!
That's not predatory gambling like all the other money sink microtransaction models: that is a genius way to teach your kids about the stock market without them even really noticing they're learning about the stock market. I have paid for a semester of university with TF2 items I acquired with $400 of birthday and Christmas money over 3 years. They don't teach that kinda shit in schools because it's far less profitable than gunning for parental credit cards and saying sorry after to try and weasel out of the ensuing lawsuit!
