I'm no expert but I'm under the impression that bleach is what you're looking for here.

Scrub it thoroughly with dishsoap and a dish sponge, throw away the sponge afterwards. Next up, I assume you don't have an autoclave, so stick the glass thing in the oven @ 170 Celsius for 1h or 160 Celsius for 2h (dry heat sterilization guidelines). Will be sterile after that. Make sure you heat it up gradually so it doesn't crack.

baking it is really overkill with a moderate chance of failure. just soak it in bleach as the other user said it will kill everything. do this in a well ventilated area.

it was a hydrometer, i ended up soaking it in bleach and this antibacterial fluid i had lying around after washing it with dish soap. it wasn't like it had shit smeared all over it, it was just in a shed which had been broken into and subsequently shit all over by a bunch of rats over the last few years. the hydrometer was in a plastic tube so it didn't have any shit directly on it or anything, but i'm not taking a chance with those bastards.
