Pings in tf2??

Recently I've been playing a lot of league with my friends (I know kill me), and I really liked the whole ping system where you can click on the minimap or screen and issue a global ping to your team, alerting that something is there/you need help. How hard would this be to implement in tf2? Often times people don't listen to comms; maybe a ping and a notice will help people be more aware of the surroundings. Also helps people without a mic communicate with their team.
I'm talking about something like the current coaching system where you can tell people to attack/defend/target/move here.
Just an idea.
