#47 Several gaming organizations drop overwatch in Esports
THEBILLDOZERcampercan someone eli5 what's going on pls :)Overwatche league is coming up and teams are realizing it's not fiscally viable for them to try and get in, so they're dropping their teams
On the upside, hidan and ube are now, those are both big pogchamps

Except Fnatic, LG, and Splyce all have spots lined up for OWL. Don't know about Dignitas. Blizzard has said that the first iterations/announcements for OWL are set to start Q3 of this year.

Teams are actually being dropped the following reasons:

1. Under performing rosters with a league spot are being released in anticipation of getting new rosters/buyouts for the league. (Splyce/Fnatic)

2. Performing rosters without a guaranteed league spot are releasing to get a buyout from teams/investors that will have a league spot. (Dignitas I think)

3. Under performing rosters are being dropped after months of under performing. (Denial, LG, etc)

Also in the case of Denial the players said Denial was not treating them well and wanted to leave the org regardless of performance issues.

Anyways, since OWL is *supposedly* imminent in Q3 many of these teams are taking this opportunity to drop rosters in anticipation of picking up new ones for the league whether they be new or existing orgless teams.

m4risaI know this sounds really weird, but enough spots will be bought out, just not by the traditional e-sport organizations that you would normally expect. The primary issue here I feel, is if investors will find their investments into teams worthwhile, which we will eventually see.

Supposedly Blizzard has restricted tournaments from happening recently aside from APEX and APAC, I have a feeling they're going to try to monopolize the tournament scene with an advanced infrastructure imitating actual sports; this would have happened eventually, as it has with traditional sports in the past.

It's just natural progression really, this is the next big step, and I hope Blizzard manages it well. Makes complete sense with their buyout of MLG last year.

If you read the article without any sense of what is actually going on in Overwatch, you're probably going to develop a terrible interpretation.

You are correct

SpaceCadetI'd give avast one of my stars if I could

This is how I know I could always team up with Space again. Dedicated enough to give me a star. A true team player through and through.

SpaceCadetSideshowHunter_2_0Haven't followed the pro overwatch scene, can someone summarize how ex tf2 players have done against other teams in general?
Purely in tf2 terms:

Avast's team has been pounding the tier-two NA sides like harbleu's old team, Mike's team, Hidan's team, PYYYOUR's team, and mesr's team. They just got beaten in a recent tournament by KnOxXx's team though, and ryb's team and Taimou's team were in Korea and would probably beat them too. Zebbosai's team is also really good but they're stuck in Korea - where they lost to Fl0w3r's team - or Europe so they won't play them, and Rubikon's team are pretty good too but again, stuck in Europe.

That's the OW scene in a TF2 nutshell.

So you are basically just saying Avast is still Low Invite? ;P

You're too savage for me Space. Gonna roll me on the forums like that smh.
