to the point that people wouldn't necessarily want to see an opinion about an event, I don't think that's necessarily true. Not everyone constantly knows what's going on, and piecing it together from a 6-page thread with some weird-ass title isn't fun for people that aren't terminally online. Having a well-thought out, well-written bit about it could be beneficial.
