#26 Favorite Superhero? in Off Topic
NightGoatBatman is my favorite superhero.

"But he doesn't have any powers!"

That's what I love about batman. If you had enough money and technology, you could become batman.

nah not even batmans more fictitious than you might think. He's stronger and smarter than any human in real life by quite a bit.

I have favorite comics but its kinda hard to pick a favorite hero since a lot of it will depend on who's writing for that hero i.e. scott snyder / jeph loeb batman are both incredible but go read allstar batman and it's like lol wtf is this. I guess if I'd had to pick an absolute favorite it'd probably be hulk just because I think the dynamic between hulk/banner is interesting and the few hulk comics that I enjoy I really really love (planet hulk, hulk:gray specifically)

LangeChompsI'm assuming the long delays between matches were so that both the cs and tf2 matches could have non-laggy streams
Nope, there was plenty of bandwidth for both of us. The delays were almost always caused by either hardware problems, players disappearing, or us having to wait for Midnight Madness to be over.

We had like an 4 hour delay on the first day, and there were about 8 times where we were sure that we could go live within 5 minutes only for something else to crop up. Live events are hard, and they're harder when everyone is volunteer.

Thanks for clearing that up. It's a pretty first world problem overall, but in that event i'd honestly rather someone come and say "someone disappeared" or "we don't know when the next match will start because x" or whatever. I get that everyone's busy at the lan center trying to get shit underway and I give the volunteers mad props for helping get the event running as smoothly as it was so I'm not trying to shit on that or anything. There was some information and people knew technical problems were an issue but I just think more communication with the stream during the event would've been nice, that's all :)

Thanks for all the work to everyone that put this together, I didn't go but I did enjoy watching.

P.S. It'd also be pretty cool if there was something to watch during the downtimes I think it was one of the esea lans where they had a few frag vids that would play in between matches, it made it more fun to stick around the stream in the downtime

More accurate info about when matches are expected, I'm assuming the long delays between matches were so that both the cs and tf2 matches could have non-laggy streams and I understand you can't always predict when a cs match will be over in 20 minutes or 120 minutes but its pretty annoying to hear "be back soon don't go anywhere" and then be waiting for like 90 minutes. There were a few matches I missed because by the end of the event I realized that it was just random when the next match would start and I just left after watching a match and hoped when I came back in an hour or so I would be in time to catch the next one. I think it'd beneficial to either get a higher Internet connection for the casters so they could runs simultaneously or even just making educated guesses like "it should be about an hour" and then maybe someone comes into the stream to let people know if there are delays or its gonna be a bit longer.

#21 Starting a Good Exercise Routine? in Off Topic

Since nobody's mentioned it yet, its really important to get the right amount of sleep. Your body does most of its healing while you sleep so you'll need 7-9 hours to keep feeling healthy/able to exercise. And breakfast is really important too, your body will go into a fasted state and slow its metabolism way down when you fall asleep and the easiest way to get your body back into a regular state is to eat something and hydrate (tea, coffee, water will all do this, some people say caffeine will dehydrate you but the idea that the diuretic effect of caffeine will dehydrate you has been debunked by a few studies) or exercise (I think its easier to just eat but that's just me). I usually eat some oatmeal and fruit when I wake up and drink coffee, and if I do any heavy exercise soon after I might eat another small breakfast (like a few eggs or something) just to give my body nutrients and keep me feeling energized after.

Edit: don't oversleep though, that'll often leave you feeling shitty when you wake up and just makes it so you spend more time in that fasted state. If you've really pushed yourself the day before your body might make use of more sleep to recover but in general oversleeping is just shitty for you and can lead to lots of mental health problems as well as physical.

Make sure to clean up your diet when you start to work out, it's definitely a lot easier to get the most out of your body and push yourself if you've been chowing on veggies, healthy fats (like olives, avocado, some other shit), healthy proteins etc, and DEFINITELY stay hydrated. Dehydration sets in before thirst so in general if you're thirsty you're doing it wrong (and also being dehydrated can slow your metabolism WAYYY DOWN). Avoid sugars, but if you're exercising pretty regularly and you want a soda or whatever every once in a while it's not a big deal I feel like most people when they force themselves away from the foods they want the most wind up binging on it whenever they "relapse" just try to not make it a habbit. Also I used to be like WAYY into soda but once I started properly hydrating and taking care of my diet I don't crave it ever, tea and water are kind of my favorite things now which I wouldn't have said like 2 years ago.

For losing fat I'd recommend interval running alternating running/sprints with walking/jogging, as time passes try to increase either the time you spend running or the distance you spend running while decreasing the time you spend walking/jogging. Personally I like to run outside (away from places with high pollution) because I feel like running to new places and discovering shit while I run is what keeps me from getting suuuuper bored like looking at numbers on a treadmill can only keep my attention for 15 minutes max.

My goal is always to push my heart when I run and really try to hit that sweet 180-200 bpm mark (this might be different for you, iirc its dependent on age what bpm you should be at to get this effect), if you do it long enough your body will release HGH (you can tell when this happens because your skin will be flushed red and you will probably be breathing very hard and sweating very quickly; I usually feel a warm flush throughout my body and when I calm down I start to feel realllllly good) which iirc helps your body/organs get stronger and hitting that bpm increases your post-exercise oxygen consumption which will light up your metabolism for like 24 hours (basically getting your heart to go really really fast for 15-30 minutes a day, regardless of how you do it will help with burning fat a lotttt).

For building muscle hit the weights hard (or use bodyweight workouts) and make sure to eat a meal high in carbohydrates and protein soon after (I like to eat mainly veggies here and protein I usually mix a powder into milk, but its probably better to get it through natural sources like chicken or something) and make sure if you're really working the muscles you get a looot of grams of protein like I think last I heard it was pretty much your body weight in grams of protein, idk I'm 210 but I dont really ever get more than 180 g's on a given day, and thats a high point, the protein will help rebuild your muscle much stronger but keep in mind carbs (from veggies and grains) are what rebuild your muscles so you want to get loads of those in too.

AND MAKE SURE TO STAY HYDRATED (SUUUUUUPER IMPORTANT)

Also I've heard people say if you want the "toned" look you should do loads of low intensity exercises like lifting 5 lb dumbbells like 100 times and I've also heard that the toned look is just having a low % of body fat and a good amount of muscle and that people that tell you to lift low pound weights to get that are essentially wasting your time since you will get results but it'll take a lot longer to do 3 sets of 100 reps than using a higher weight and doing 3 sets of like 5 reps. But I dont know I haven't actually done my own research on the topic, so if someone else wants to come in and confirm one of those two things that'd be cool otherwise just do some reading.

Oh yeah and like doing your own research and learning about nutrition, fitness, workouts etc is what I do whenever I start to lack motivation, if I force myself to keep learning about it it usually rekindles the desire to go work out.

#47 CEVO LAN Finals @ theGXL in Events

These casters aren't very great and have a lot to learn about the game and how to cast it before they're really good, but they're volunteering their time (and money for travel/lan tickets/room) to bring YOU coverage so maybe show a little appreciation guys like shit. Thanks for the hard work getawhale and gecks, it can be a thankless job but I'm just happy that there's people around to cover this great event.

#857 Do you like the song above? in Music, Movies, TV

Pretty fun song, a lot of my friends who listen to metal hate on dragon force but I feel like the vocal stylings they have mix with their instrumentals really well. If I have a complaint its that they're songs all sound very similar to one another, but that might not hold up if I listened to them a bit more. I think the way he sings in this song really reminds me of like eye of the tiger but that just might be me? idk

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eHR4jWF1qRk - I can understand if whoever listens to this gets turned off by the vocals (even though I love them ) but I really love this bands instrumentals so much

#10 Comic Books in Off Topic

The entirety of scott snyders batman run is incredible (and greg capullo's art is probably my favorite), if you pick up the trade paper backs just be careful with the owl series though court of owls is #1 city of owls is #2 and night of owls is fill in issues from other characters that we didn't see in the main batman series. I get a lot of comics for the art and I don't really pretend to be the best at criticizing stories/writing as I haven't taken more than a few beginner creative writing classes but I don't think any of the comics on this list will have anything worse than a mediocre story (usually with imo incredible art)

Batman (vol 1-4, includes Court of Owls, City of Owls, Death of the Family, Zero Year - Secret City)

Planet Hulk - Super adventure based awesome story that I loved (the follow up world war hulk was kinda weak imo though)

Thor: God of Thunder (marvel now) (vol 1-2 The God Butcher, God Bomb) - I really can't emphasize how good these first two volumes are, which really surprised me since I've never really digged thor comics but they make it feel just absolutely epic in the greatest sense. If you like these you can feel free to pick up #3 The accursed, but I do think it kinda vreers a little in direction (though is still really good)

Allstar Superman - Just a great book, very classic

Uncanny Avengers - I'll admit this is probably the most likely for someone to disagree with but idk I liked avengers vs xmen and I think this was really cool follow up. Volume 1 is great, the next two volumes really vreer away from that storyline a lot though like everything that happens in volume 1 is just kinda like this huge plot device for the real story that happens in volumes 2 and 3

Batman and Superman - New 52 Vol.1 Crossworlds : I really like this series, the art is incredible and I really like the style of writing too.

I picked up New Avengers vol 1 Everything Dies recently and Captain america Trapped in Demension zone Z and I thought they were both aight, worth checking out and seeing if they get better (if you have to pick one new avengers was a bit better imo)

Superior spiderman's kinda cool but idk for some reason I just can't get behind it the same way a lot of other people do

Original sin started off really strong but it gets weird at the end, still worth picking up because it's changed a lot in the marvel verse

Avengers vs Xmen was an aight event, very action packed with some impressive panels

I've heard great things about xmen battle of the atom, that'll probably be the next thing I buy

Seconding batman long halloween and dark victory (great influential origin stories for a lot of batman characters) Y the last man and all hellboy ever

Grew up listening to him. I like it but I probably wouldn't put it on by my own volition.

-protoyou don't have to agree with her beliefs but you can't deny that she was talented and worked her ass off her whole life. you need to respect people who have accomplished a whole lot more than you have or most likely ever will that have passed away.

I really don't get this mentality at all. Respect is something anyone can choose to give anyone else or not, you can't really make demands of who people "need to respect" especially since its just going to basically be you saying "I value these things in people therefor YOU NEED TO VALUE THEM TOO". You can respect her or not, I value hard work and its cool that shes a person who clearly did that, but I value common decency and a persons beliefs more than how hard they work or how much they've accomplished (especially since, lets face it, some people work very hard and succeed in very little, at no fault of their own) so no I dont respect her. Also respecting people cause they're dead is stupid. Talking trash about dead people is stupid too, but changing your opinion on someone just cause they're not around anymore is rly dum.

Not really defending people coming in here and making fun/light of a persons death thats a p crappy thing to do even if it is the internet.

EDIT: just dawned on me you might've meant you need to show respect to dead people, which I agree with, but mostly just cause they're dead and its crude to publically make fun of dead people regardless of how much fame/success/ they had or work they did.

cool song, didnt really dig it initially but after a careful second listen my initial impression that it was boring instrumentally and way too long didn't hold up. Probably wont make it into my rotation but i'm interested enough to check out a few more of his (their?) songs maybe i'll like it or something.

#1 makin vidya games in Off Topic

yo so I've got free time now that midterms are over and instead of socializing and having a life i kinda want to start making games. I've always had a passion for games and i'm at a point in my life where I'm picking up all kinds of hobbies that could potentially turn into jobs if I find something i'm good at / love doing and I've always had a passion for video games so i'm gonna try to make my foray into programming.

I've not had much programming experience before except i used to be p good at making websites in highschool. Anyways i'm just posting here to see what tf.tv's advice/experience can tell me about it. If anyone has any good books or articles or anything to point me to a start then please share, as well as personal experiences or advice.
