Wasn't he the guy who said he was going to visit Valve and ask them all our questions, but then disappeared? I bet Gabe Newell kidnapped him.

DarkNecridbrownymaster#60, I remember when people wanted heavies to get faster to mid.

People don't know what they want.

I personally don't remember anyone suggesting this. What I heard about how the GRU happened was Valve asked why people don't run Heavy more often in the comp beta and they answered that the Heavy is slow and Valve thought that meant it should be fixed, or something lol.

Its hard to remember, but there was a time when not only did everyone not hate heavy, but when a lot of people wanted it to be made more viable in comp. I can remember quite a few players practically begging for the GRUs to be put into the game. The problem was that valve added them after they gave the heavy massive buffs and everyone had started to hate the class with a burning passion.

2sy_morphiendIt pre-dates the popularity of league of legends though. I remember turtle posting about it on gotfrag, and when the quick fix was originally released people thought it would make the game more centered on aggressive pushing with constant, albeit less powerful, "ubers."

I think I recall Orzo talking about it making ubers last half as long and take half as long to charge, but I could be mistaken.

There were also the people who thought legalizing the vitasaw would speed up the game.

Wow I didn't even realize it heals you if you take damage from a "matched" source. I guess this means you can intentionally walk into spam and sentry guns while ubered and get healed? If so that is the stupidest idea ever.

EDIT: #32 Who asked for a new medigun?

#30 New Weapon Discussion in TF2 General Discussion

Here is my list of problems with the vaccinator

1. The icons are hard to tell apart at close range. They are almost impossible to tell apart when you are flying through the air above a medic.

All the icons are square (valve has apparently forgotten the importance of silhouettes) with identical color schemes and patterns that don't stand out well. I'm still not sure if I've even seen the fire one or if its just so similar to the explosive that I couldn't tell the difference (I was airborne when I though I saw the fire one).

The difficulty in telling apart the icons makes it much harder to make good decisions. Since you are required to attack the uber with the right kind of damage, the result is often either getting too close before realizing your mistake or hesitating too long and losing the window for aggression.

The icons are also ugly and when a medic splits uber the screen is just full of the icons and it looks like a mess.

2. The effect that surround players when they are ubered is harsh on the eyes and obscures the player models a bit. At longer ranges this effect can make it difficult to even tell which class is ubered since it breaks up the silhouettes (Valve used to care so much about this) and is fairly opaque. It also seems to make hitting more precise hitscan shots a little bit more difficult.

3. The icons above the player models could easily be obscured by unusual effects.

4. There isn't any way to tell how many ubers a medic has so if as a scout you plan to rush the medic when his uber fades he could have another one and then you're fucked.

5. A lot of opportunities for aggression would be denied. It would no longer be feasible for a single scout or soldier to sac themselves for a med pick or uber force.

The window to attack the med before he gets uber is ridiculously small. Forcing the uber is worthless also, because even if you force one uber you'll most likely die before you can force a second and even if he only had one uber he can most likely charge another one before your team can push. Trading a single player for an uber pop would be a horrible trade. Even on mids you wouldn't really be able to get aggressive on the med or demo without them popping on you, which to me is utterly ridiculous.

6. The passive bullet resistance would make it impossible to one shot kill heavies with the sniper rifle.

7. There doesn't appear to be any cooldown between uber uses, so it is possible to shoot medium range rockets at a medic who is bullet ubered only for him to pop an explosive uber.

8. A lot of people wrongly assume that the faster charge rate will speed up the game when in fact it will do the opposite. I think it would make this game into an absolute stalematey grind-fest. How difficult would it be to push if the enemy team always has uber and do bring down the combo you will have to hit them with two different types of damage one of which will do no practically no damage? Does that sound fun?

9. It lowers the skill ceiling for medic even further. The weapon is popular in pubs right now because most of the medics in those servers don't have the patience or the survival skills to build and use uber well. With the vaccination there is less pressure to milk ubers since they are kind of hard to waste and so there is less chance of dropping. The only real skill the vaccinator promotes is choosing the correct resistances, something the pubbers I encountered had no problem with. When they were attack by soldiers they chose explosive, when fighting heavies the chose bullet. It really isn't that difficult.

10. This last one is my opinion completely, but I don't feel resistances make a good core gameplay mechanic for an fps.

If you want to decide for yourself and test out this weapon even more go ahead, but I have a feeling I haven't even scratched the surface yet. There are probably many more reasons why this unlock is terrible and they will be discovered.

#1 Players going invisible in TF2 General Discussion

In scrims tonight players would randomly go invisible and then reappear like a minute later. The players are completely invisible except for their weapons and hats. Unlike the old problem of players going invisible it does not seem to be clientside as all the other players on the server seem to experience it.

I hope it is fixed soon since it is easy to exploit and impossible not to.

Also, fuck Christmas noisemakers.

hookyClandestinePzThe new medigun should be banned without question. It makes the game far too confusing and unintuitive and changes too many familiar concepts. It also might be straight up op.Or we could try it first.

Of course, that's never going to happen. No one likes trying new things.

I've played against it in pubs and can already list a thousand reasons why it should be banned.

#38 Updat in TF2 General Discussion

Honestly, I was really hoping Valve wouldn't mess around too much with resistances. They're fine for MvM and MMO's and games like Dota, but they don't fit well in fps games (I do realize the paintrain counts, but that is a fairly minor example).

Valve has made a lot of terrible weapons, but with this new medigun they have completely abandoned their earlier design philosophy. Before, their intent was to make everything as intuitive as possible and make it easy to discern important information at a quick glance. Valve originally thought that ladders were too complicated and unintuitive for their intended audience, but now they've added the most confusing and unintuitive weapon imaginable. How are you supposed to be able to tell what resistances are active at a glance and calculate potential damage done? I assume the resistance types would break down as explosive, bullet and fire, but where do weapons like the huntsman and the bison fit in? How can you tell how many ubers the medic has left? How are players supposed to judge all the different ubercharge rates?

I realize this weapon can easily be banned from competitive play (It should be, for the above reasons) and that it is almost certainly designed for MvM, but I am still really disappointed in Valve for designing such a lame weapon and I thought they would have learned their the fists of steel.

#81 Yet another shooting in Off Topic

It does bother me Mustard, that you begin and end your post with gross misrepresentations (complete with ANGRY WRITING IN ALL CAPS!!!!) of my argument. It would be nice if you could respond to my post without trying to straw man me.

I find the concept of originalism distasteful and I know a lot of other people do as well, which is I suspect, why you tried to pin that label on me. I am not an originalist, I do not believe the founding fathers to be infallible and I do not even own a gun. I do however think, that people are too eager to dismiss the 2nd amendment as based on outdated reasoning without stopping to consider why the right to bear arms was deemed important in the first place.

Even imagining stricter gun control laws had been place for generations up until this point what would have been different? Surely you're not arguing that Adam Lanza would not have developed serious psychological issues and become violent? Would you consider it a win if he had attacked the school with a machete instead of a gun?

I agree with you that it is unfortunate that we have a tendency to ignore issues until a tragedy occurs, but It makes me uncomfortable to see how some people rush to exploit the emotional vulnerability and impulsiveness of the public after such tragedies to further their own agendas (even if they think its for a good cause).

As for the hypothetical murder on the streets of Baltimore (yes I agree "The Wire" was a good show) you argue that it is the fault of "the failing American economic system and the War on Drugs". So why then do you place blame for the Newtown massacre on the guns the shooter used and not the factors that led to his mental illness?

In my original post I said that I was upset that so many people were ignoring the mental illness aspect of this story. Ironically, you chose to ignore this section of my post which I feel proves my point a little bit.

I think most people agree with some form of gun control. I think even the most hard core NRA member would admit that you have to draw the line somewhere (you can't have private citizens owning cruise missiles). It is simply a question of where to draw that line and that is a tricky question because owning a gun IS a right (whether or not it should be is what we're debating right now). I think that stricter gun control laws would have an impact on crime, but that that impact would have to be weighed against the loss of freedom entailed.

I would also appreciate if you would not accuse me of condoning homicide.

clckwrkbrownymasterEvery time a massacre happens

But honestly, what do you guys want? Where do you draw the line? Guns definitely kill people, and are made explicitly to harm things (but hobbies have grown out of it). A kitchen knife will never banned even though you can kill someone with it. Cars are amazing for killing people outside, but sucks for people in buildings. Archery is generally less lethal than guns, but they serve the exact same purpose as guns do. Would you ban archery too? Also, materials for explosives also exist. It takes a lot more effort and intelligence to pull off though.

It's not as easy to draw lines, and definitely hard to find an all encompassing solution. Unless you're behind your computer looking out. We can do without guns, but we could have done without alcohol too. That shit turned out nice.

? Kitchen knives are used to conduct kitchen activities. Cars are used to travel long distances in a short amount of time. These two are capable of killing, but arguably their usefulness outweighs the fact that they can kill. Cars are also designed to limit their killing potential. Archery is slightly different, as it does have the same intrinsic nature as guns, but unless Legolas decided it was time take his anger out on an elementary school I don't think we'd ever see 25 people effortlessly killed with an archery bow. A knife is almost identical. Of course these three things are capable of killing, but compared to a gun their efficiency at it is nearly incomparable. This is the reason the military uses guns and not bow and arrow.

So, yeah, it's pretty easy to draw lines between things that are pretty different.

Your post just reminded me of this

http://usnews.nbcnews.com/_news/2012/12/01/15600220-wyoming-killings-man-stabbed-dads-girlfriend-then-shot-arrow-at-dad-in-class-cops-say?lite

perhaps the bow and arrow isn't the most efficient weapon, but I think we have to worry about more than keeping the body count low.
