im getting back into tf2 and im having trouble installing hitsounds, it just plays the default hitsound regardless of what hitsound i download. ive also tried downloading the same hitsound (quake3) from a few different sources to ensure that its not just some broken .wav file for some reason

usually, id install them by following these steps:
C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Team Fortress 2\tf\custom\my_custom_stuff\sound\ui\hitsound.wav (where hitsound.wav would be the name of x hitsound)

once that didnt work, i also tried:
C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Team Fortress 2\tf\custom\hitsound\sound\ui\hitsound.wav
(difference being i just put the "hitsound" folder directly into the "custom" folder)

i have tf_dingalingaling 1 turned on (this command turns hitsounds on/off), i have the option in "Advanced Options" that asks you play a sound whenever you hit an enemy enabled, and i have my hitsound volume at what would be an audible level (1.00). i also have the hitsounds dropbar selection in the "Advanced Options" set to Default (idk if this is why it keeps playing the default hitsound bc i used to have downloaded hitsounds that would work with this setting)

TL;DR: Is my DVI-D cable length causing "DVI-D No Signal", green dots, monitor blinking and disallowing me to receive 144hz? I just want to able to use 144hz with my DVI-D cable without these repercussions.

I recently purchased a 10 foot long dual link dvi cable to start getting 144hz on my 144hz compatible monitor. I had set my monitor's options (using the actually monitor i.e pressing its buttons to select the DVI option) to receive the DVI connection. My problem is that once I had connected everything, started up my computer and selected 144hz on the >Screen Resolution>Monitor, the screen blacked out (as it would regularly if you were changing res/hertz) for a second and when it came back, it stayed at 60hz.

At this point I was just assuming that it was nothing and that it was just some normal computer problem that was solved by trying again, which I did. After a cycle of trying to select 144hz (and being on 60hz to begin with), the monitor started blinking (it blacked out and went back to the desktop for no reason, even after hitting apply once you selected your hertz, it just kept turning off and on). NOTE: It did only appear to be with 144hz, I tried other hertz options like 100hz, and it worked. It only didn't wanna go to 144hz after the regular blackout when changing hertz/res.

I turned off the computer and monitor and tried again. Once the computer and monitor powered on, I saw that even in the stages of my computer starting up, it was blinking (i.e *Regular start up that shows monitor brand blah blah blah*, there was also some weird little green spots on monitor). After a few a seconds passed, the monitor started displaying "DVI No Signal", even though I surely had both ends of my DVI-D cable plugged in (in the midst of this, monitor was still blinking and the cycle of blinking and "DVI No Signal" continued). This was happening for around 5 minutes until I decided to turn off the monitor and computer and try again, but of course, nothing.

I tried unplugging and plugging back in the DVI-D cable thinking it was just a problem with the cable being a little loose, because that was what it appeared to be. This time there didn't appear to blinking and I made it to the desktop where I tried changing to 144hz, but of course, nothing. The blinking cycle continued.

I tried looking up solutions to my problem and I thought that I found an answer which was taking out other cables that were not in use i.e HDMI/VGA (this didn't work either). After trying another power off/on and blinking cycle, my monitor still wouldnt go to 144hz in the >Screen Resolution>Monitor options (and in ANOTHER power off/on blinking cycle, I got more green dots and shit started looking like matrix).

After a few hours when I decided to search for solutions again, I came across something that I believe MAY or MAY NOT be the solution, my DVI-D cable length. I read something about there not being enough strength in the connection due to the cable length, which would also explain why there was blinking, but it still worked.

The only reason why I was able to type this was because I found a temporary solution to my problem, selecting HDMI as my monitor's input (HDMI doesn't support 144hz, but atleast I can actually access my computer without blinking/green dots).

Any Solutions?

the301stspartan do you mean like does my computer have a slot to actually put the port into? in which case, no it does not

i did check my screen resolution/nvidia options for the drop down bar that allows you to select 144hz, its like just not an option

EDIT: atleast i dont have an 144hz option for 1920x1080, i have it for a few other lower resolutions like 1024x720

i mean the display port came with the monitor without actually saying that it came with a displayport, so (ya know, couldnt have checked). my monitor supports 144hz and i have a dual dvi cable + updated drivers, yet i still cant get 144hz.

I know that you can use both dual dvi and displayport cables to get 144hz on your monitor.

I can plug the DisplayPort cable into my monitor, but theres literally no where to plug it into my computer. Is there like something else that im missing to put the two together????
