Its very easy to say "lol its the internet its not real lmaoooo" when you're not part of a minority group that some people literally would enjoy nothing more than to beat you senseless and kill you irl (and I can think of a few instances in just the past few weeks of targeted violence against trans youth just in the UK), then to only go onto the internet and see that exact same rhetoric again.
Tell the 41% of trans people that will attempt suicide within their lifetime that words can't hurt you and they're not real. When your entire identity is constantly under attack wherever you go, it is real. It's obviously impossible to police the entire fucking internet, but there's like 10 people in this community. edit: On a personal level, since this community is so comparatively microcosmic and insular to other games, an individual who contributes to targeted harassment implicitly or explicitly has quantifiable impact if they become more empathetic to the struggles of other people
