#80 Qutting TF2 in Off Topic
fosterI appreciate how much you guys all support my leaving, with all this hate it would be really hard to ever come back.

If you want to know why i quit, you can stop speculating. TF2 was ruining my life. I had no self control over what i did with my free time. I wasn't spending any time on homework or a social life ever because i was depressed, and i used TF2 as an escape from my problems in life (djc mentioned something about that in his drunk speech). I was at the point in my life where i didn't enjoy anything and i felt lost in school and, even if i could make it into the college i want to go to, would likely drop out. I had literally 0 motivation to do anything other than play videogames. As much as i hated it, my parents made me go "cold-turkey" so to speak, and i talked to greed on saturday morning about leaving. He told me it would be better if i just leave the roster and get it over with.

I equate it to this: you do not know me, i had a problem in my life, an actual addiction, as stupid as that sounds. You don't quit smoking crack and then the next day say "ok just 1 more bowl of crack for the guys". I don't even know why I'm explaining myself, i can't come back if i wanted to now. Bottom line, I'm sorry to my team, I'm not sorry to anyone who just likes to speculate on what may or may not have happened with me. You can hate me, i deserve it, i did a dick thing so i can get on with my life.

Also I'm really glad my team won without me and i really hope you guys don't end up dying.

I was pretty surprised you did this until I read this, stroke a chord with me, something I'm going to have to do in a few months as well. GL!

#10 Tangerine S6 Frag Vid by Dashner in Videos
FuRyoverseerGigaI liked the unnoticed sticky trap at 0:08I wouldn't call it a trap, it's just the spam at the start of gullywash mid. 2 stickies don't kill an overhealed pyro, fortunately. :Dthe medics right behind the pyro :3

It was not an "unnoticed trap", it is really common Gullywash mid rollout sticky spam in Highlander - those stickies are arriving just as the Pyro gets there, and the Medic can walk around them or have them disarmed if neccessary.

It's interesting that so many people point it out, it is extremely common, the other team was having the same thing happen to them.

#5 dreamhack in TF2 General Discussion
dudereur 43k to get what, exactly? I could host a LAN in Chicago for that much, a really nice one.

Dreamhack is pretty much the biggest LAN in the whole world though, lots of exposure that would appeal to sponsors there if people got real into it as far as spectating/viewers there goes, I'm sure someone could host a real nice LAN here for roughly the same cost, but it prolly wouldn't have those kinds of benefits.

Figured I'd post it here since there's a Highlander section and what not, Dashner made this and put a lot of work into it.

#30 Soldiers using the Black Box - fill me in? in TF2 General Discussion
Richi remember a pug where vhalin was on the other team doin this. bbox pretty much turned him into a really effective ''harassment'' class. but unlike scout, sentries were not a problem. If I'm not mistaken he was using gunboats as well.

Yeah BB is real good with Gunboats. A lot of people (myself included previously) thought it'd suck cause "you only have 3 rockets" etc, but essentially with BB + Gunboats what you do is is jump in, get a close range splash rocket, jump away. Reload, rinse repeat.

#7 fps configs better than chris'? in TF2 General Discussion
kirbyi heard there were rare occurrences were running @ max settings could result in better performance than lowest settings. is this true?

If your GPU is really really good you can get better performance with higher settings since the Source engine will actually use your GPU a little bit.

#23 Soldiers using the Black Box - fill me in? in TF2 General Discussion

I also used it in Summer season, I used it pretty much every game (the one vs ts was fun since it was vhalin and I blackboxing everyone forever). Highlander soldiers are basically roamers that bomb differently (thanks to heavies/sentry guns/etc) and using it let me sustain myself without as many heals, which in turn creates a much stronger heal spread on everyone else.

#20 Best f2p MMORPG? in Off Topic
IceeZStill debating if i should get gw2 now with bad graphics, gw2 later with a new graphics card, play SwTor with good graphics when it goes f2p.

out of those choices, get gw2 now with bad graphics. You might not be able to play World PvP with good frames, tho PvE/Structured PvP will work A+ most likely.

SW:TOR isn't good tbh.

#16 MANN VS MACHINE Update in TF2 General Discussion

Team comps don't really matter since every class is getting new / upgraded weapons via money just solely for this mode. For all we know Spy is going to be top tier cause it'll get some new MvM only weapon that absolutely wrecks everything.

#17 The Direct Hit in TF2 General Discussion
mustardoverlordI don't think there's a single soldier good enough with the direct hit to justify running it full-time

Ye this, but basically I heard from the grape vine that Seagull thinks that if one were to get good enough with it, it would prolly be a straight upgrade. IDK if he actually thinks that or not, but it was from a reliable friend of his so I dunno.

#3 The Direct Hit in TF2 General Discussion

I was told that if people managed to actually practice with it (like hit almost every shot with it), it'd be pretty beneficial to switch to it full time - but online especially splash damage is much more reliable and easier to land with.

#29 official valve support in TF2 General Discussion

AFAIK, Robin has moved onto bigger things, he only works part time on TF2 now. Sad since he helped create the entire series!

Tho mind he did say "We'd like to see if we could" - I mostly would like to think they internally attempted and realized it wasn't very possible/useful, although I'd say they technically did follow up on this with official custom whitelist support.

#10 quite a few people who have visited Valve have basically confirmed it is is true, unless you're really going to argue that tons of employees totally fake it every time some one visits them. They transitioned to the current system sometime around HL2, afaik.

#23 This is pretty untrue. I'm fairly certain Valve is doing all of this for Dota 2 cause Dota kinda has 14-22 million players (and that was an early 2010 estimate, it's only bigger now) world wide, it's absolutely a behemoth.

#29 As an avid Dota player, I completely agree with you. The ticket system would be pretty great, as would all of the sweet sweet stuff Valve has done with Dota 2 spectator. The biggest obstacle to this system is in Dota the master server actually dynamically assigns new STVs to each match as the STVs attached to the match fill (and auto selects an open one when you go to watch it), so there's no limit to the amount of people who can watch any one game. TF2 doesn't really have this, and on top of that pretty much anything you would watch in TF2 (since servers are bought and owned by players, not just Valve) has their own limited STVs. This is probably a difficult problem to find solutions to.
