#94 How did you get your alias in TF2 General Discussion

I'm a math major, and when school started to actually get enjoyable for me, it was under the guidance of a wonderful calculus prof who'd become a mentor of mine. When I was in calc 2, I was also in a field research class and realized that a problem we were having with developing an experiment could basically be solved with an optimization problem, only with multiple independent variables. This is a calc 4 concept, but my mentor helped me get started on learning it on my own and showed a lot of faith in my ability. It was really empowering, so the gradient vector and calculus in general hold a really special place in my heart.

Hence, Differ ∇ = Differ-Del = just a vague nod to calculus and particularly, the gradient vector. :)

Thanks for writing again, loot!

lootEd still has yet to play a match (any day now I'm sure).

Also, not a big deal, but this isn't correct. Ed played two matches with us (on metal and snake) before his computer died. I did make that correction after you said this last week.

Brimstone is great to interact with as a rival team leader. Every single one of my current teammates--Ed, Zacice, Morin, Moy, and Mostlybacon--is a pleasure to be around, and I consider it a huge privilege to play with them. My girl Feces is just all-around awesome.

At a higher level, Rando and Shrugger seem uncommonly nice.

mercnot sure why they would have two conferences if they just take the top the the 16. im not doubting you here im just kinda wondering why they would do that

In theory, you can have better matches in terms of ping throughout the regular season.

Yeah, I never had problems with this because my job involves talking all day anyway (I tutor/TA math), so I definitely feel like it's something your body adjusts to. :3

#9 Laptop for school and tf2 in Hardware

I would highly recommend you keep an eye on xoticpc's laptop page to see if anything goes on sale. The cheapest laptop there currently is an MSI for $699, but they do have good sales sometimes, and I haven't seen another site where you'll get better specs for your money. Plus, if the policies there are the same as a few years ago, you get lifetime tech support for your PC purchase. You miight have slight issues with weight, depending on how light you wanted to go. That MSI I linked has pretty dang good default specs... but the deal with this website is that you can order their machines as listed or customize *a lot.*

Laptops by price:

----
BUT I will say that even though the laptop I got from there a few years ago was a fantastic machine, I did end up regretting not just building a desktop and getting a cheapo laptop because I hated carrying such a valuable thing around... and when I did eventually wreck parts of it with a liquid spill, it was gonna be crazy expensive to repair, so I ended up just building a desktop instead anyway and putting ubuntu on an ancient thinkpad for school. :)

Edit: oof, didn't see you were oz. Dunno what shipping would be like. You might be able to find a similar custom seller there?

#16 Surgery in Off Topic

I haven't had mine out, but it's just about the most commonly done surgery, so you haven't got much to worry about.

Incidentally, as much as I think sail doesn't have the full scoop on our team when he says that we're overrated, I've thought since the pre-season that EVIL would be top open. I think he's right about where he put his own team.

http://lowminustf2.blogspot.ca/2016/06/esea-o-power-rankings-june-26.htmlthey have yet to actually play a match this season with edward

The deal with Ed is that his computer died just two matches after he came back, and so a huge portion of my/our time has been devoted to just making sure we have competent people to play, rather than being able to work with our usual players to put forth a super strong performance. Unfortunately, that pattern will have to continue this week and possibly next, as I may need to care for a relative in another state who's getting surgery tomorrow.

Once our roster re-stabilizes, we'll be ready to get back to pounding. B)
