UPDATE: donation incentives have now been changed to reflect those that are still available.
This won’t quite be a ‘Quitting + My Story’, but since there have been a few questions about the reasons for my departure I will try to answer a few of them here.
My enthusiasm for the game and for high level competition dropped significantly after the s34 finals, and never really recovered sufficiently to a point where I had the same desire to win and perform well as I had previously. This coinciding with an important final term at uni meant that I no longer had the time, or really the motivation, to compete at the kind of level I would want myself and my team to be at. These factors were already in place when I saw that Klassy had decided to leave Ascent, and after discussing it with him I realised that he and I were really in pretty much the same position; the only difference being that I maincall for Øra, and thus my departure was likely to leave a bigger hole to be filled than his.
However, that responsibility cuts both ways, and I realised that having the team limp on under an unfocused maincaller was really going to do more harm than good, not least in terms of morale and enjoyment, as well as results. So I quit.
I’d like to thank all my teammates over the years for being so much fun to play with and giving me so many good memories, in particular Nevo and Azunis, whom I’ve played with for over 2 years now (on and off). I’d also like to thank this season’s roster for being so understanding and respectful of my final decision to quit. Finally, I want to wish good luck to amarok, counou, shock and Yeehaw who will all be competing at Copenhagen Games (please keep donating to shock’s fundraiser!); you’re all beast players and your teams are lucky to have you.
UPDATE: As most of you will already be aware, this Øra roster is no longer attending CPH 2020. However, counou and shock will still be attending the event playing for the new Egg roster (counou, Yeehaw, Josh, Dmoule, Elacour and shock), and amarok is still likely to be playing. Since we made this fundraiser entirely for shock in the first place due to his high costs in travelling from Russia, we will be continuing it to make sure that shock can indeed make it to his first LAN.
Of course, we recognise that many of those who have already donated may have thought they were donating to Øra as a whole, so anyone that wishes to retract their donation given that the full roster will no longer be attending is completely entitled to do so. This can be arranged by contacting counou over discord, at counou#3575.
In any case, many thanks to all those who have donated so far (I'm told we've raised around €90), and my apologies for being the first domino to fall in this rather unfortunate chain of events.
Please see my post below for the current status of this fundraiser.
After our second-place finish in Season 34, we are pleased to announce we will be attending Copenhagen Games 2020 with our full ETF2L roster:
Scouts: Nevo, counou
Soldiers: Azunis, amarok
Demo: Eemes
Medic: shock
Since LAN is expensive, and seeing as shock is only 16 and flying all the way from Russia, he is going to need some financial help getting to LAN. We are hoping to raise €500 to cover travel, accommodation and ticket costs.
