#28 Planning to make some jumping guides in TF2 General Discussion

So after reading all the replies and things friends have told me, I think im only going to make guides for more advanced things like wallpogo, bounces, ctap, and things people seem to not understand (speedshots I guess). I realized that I can't anything useful that you already don't know for the basic things, so it'd be better to focus on stuff people really don't understand instead of beating a dead horse. Hopefully this doesn't seem like a cop out. As for the bball stuff I don't think I can make a informative guide since the way i play bball is just do whatever feels natural or gaying the other team.

capnfapnShowing how you would actually apply these jumps in an actual game would be cool. For example, show a soldier doing a regular rocket jump and then wall jumping for extra speed to drop a medic.

I think i want to avoid showing how these would help in an actual game because my aim was to just help with jumping for jump maps, but I can make a little comment here and there for use in real games.

marioI recommend lots of repetition. If I watch you do a jump once, then I know if I do exactly as you do I can do the jump. If I see you jump 3+ times, then I start to understand what's important and what's not. more reps ---> better understanding

As others have said, a bunch of short videos going over each jump is better than clumping them together.
AllealMaybe explain the mechanics behind the techniques? I always found that understanding why a speedshot happens or why a ctap happens really helped me when I was learning them. Instead of just 'do these inputs', actually break down what's happening in the game engine.

good luck!
truktrukI would recommend making a series of videos. Focus on one thing per video and really nail down the core basics of jumping then expand on the more intricate mechanics in future videos. In order for tutorial videos to be more engaging and interesting, I would implore that you do a voiceover instead of blobs of text on screen. This allows you to say more without worrying about overloading the viewer with a wall of text.

The tutorial Rainman linked is somewhat helpful, but as a newbie jumper trying to learn I found it to be more of a sloppy information overload that wasn't all that helpful. When I was learning the basics it would have been great to simply click on a video that thoroughly explained a mechanic I was having trouble with.

Yeah, I planned on making a video for each mechanic and explaining how to do them to the best of my ability.

As for the people asking about ctap guides, I think you might not be satisfied with my guide because there wont be some huge trick to help you suddenly learn it.

Rainmanwhat are you planning to introduce that's not mentioned in mouse's video (besides for bounces)?

Yeah thats one of the better jumping tuts since it's made by an old jumper. I plan on going into detail with every mechanic, for example getting the most out of a basic rj. Overall its gonna be my take on jumping as a whole. I can't guarantee it's going to be mind blowing though.

#1 Planning to make some jumping guides in TF2 General Discussion

Hi im Exile, been playing tf2 for about 4 and a half years. I mostly just jump and bball. I also have a few jump videos uploaded to my channel.

So since afterglow kinda dropped his tutorial series, I wanted to try making some of my own. That being said there are way better jumpers around who could probably make better guides than I can and I encourage them to do so. I want to start out with some feedback on what kind of things people want to see in jump tutorials or have trouble with. Currently I plan to make videos around the different mechanics of jumping (wallpogo, syncs, wallshots, bounces) as well as other related things. I can't promise these guides will be the best of quality compared to some of the popular ones, but I'll try to make them detailed because thats something most of the current tutorials lack. o

the301stspartanYou could just use a lower 16:10 res. Otherwise, check if your video driver is automatically fullscreen scaling. If it happened on its own, it's probably that.

I really want to use what ive used for 2 years and am used to.

#1 Can't get black bars in fullscreen in Hardware

I was playing with my monitor and now I can't get tf2 (all fullscreen games) to run with black bars on top and bottom. Now its stretched to fit the screen. I have no idea how i got it that way before but im comfortable with it. Anyone have any ideas how i can fix this?

I use 1280x800 (16:10 monitor)
