i would highly recommend anyone nearby the area should actually go to the event to check it out (it costs money for a pass though)
i think agdq is being held in dulles, virginia this year??
going to sgdq was one of the most fun things i did over the summer, and i'd assume that agdq would only be more awesome because it's an overall bigger event
following this forum is pretty good on staying on top of the location, i think they're deciding on hotels right now
https://forum.speeddemosarchive.com/board/games_done_quick_discussion.html
it's way different getting excited over twitch chat/stream compared to being around the runner(s) in a room filled with other people attending the event
also you get to hang out with everyone, since they usually have a practice room that slowly becomes just a game room where everyone goes to chill and play games ranging from mario party to cards against humanity
edit: OMG 0xwas IS ATTENDING THIS EVENT, EVERYONE SHOULD WATCH HIS KIRBY SUPERSTAR RUN, one of the most legendary of runners
also cyghfer :333
jape's tazmania run is probably going to be insane because that game is absolutely ridiculous
please be able to carry me
sure thought this was a top 10 plays of the month rather than a "most amazing frags of the month" compilation
eXtineYou're not wrong about the skill level Almie, but it's Top plays, not top frag, top skill or even top players. The conteXt is eXtremely important to our consideration.
extine already pointed that out there
just because something isn't flashy doesn't mean it's not a huge play
there could have been more details added to let people know how big of a play that #1 clip was and why it was ranked so high, but that's all in hindsight
i don't agree at all with almie, there is a very notable difference when you're playing against the top level and lower level players, and saying that it's just as difficult for a div 5 player to get amazing shots against div 5 players is the same thing as invite players fragging invite players is wrong
some players on lower div teams have no idea what's going on around them, which is what a lot of people groan about in these top 10 plays for a lot of the other months
it's a lot easier to get away with high killstreaks or flashy airshots in lower divisions than it is at the higher end because of the amount of communication and gamesense that each of the players have in their division, plus a lot of the time the play doesn't mean as much as a game-winning play on LAN compared to a middle of a tournament match against lopsided teams
i studied french in school for a few years, but haven't practiced it in so long that i don't remember much
i'm currently learning japanese in school and in self-study, but know a good chunk of it conversationally because of where i live
if you guys thought the server issues were bad outside of game, just imagine being inside!!!
he was cool irl so i can only assume he is cool in mumble too
hungry hungry ogres and no johns is playing and that should be good too if you want to cast something still
this match is getting moved to tomorrow
dingo's computer exploded irl
i started tf2 when a lot of my 1.6 pals/old teammates switched over and they first implemented ads into 1.6, so this was like a few days into the tf2 beta
i pubbed with an online community and got into playing competitively because all these "highly skilled" players (at the time it was the experiment/doctors/apoc + pokey + emperor and friends) played in my pub quite often and i was able to dominate them, and that made me want to try playing more seriously
the community i was a part of held private pugs that had people like dlman/jaeger/stultus/tri/many other players popped in from time to time and a bunch of us ended up making a team for fun, where i sniped full time until i started playing in tf2.gather where people told me to get off of sniper or else
the hotel was amazing (i've stayed at a ton of small hilton's/hampton's and the rooms were really nice at the hampton compared to other locations i've been to), so i liked the location of the venue
i think we need a center board or something at the control hub to see exactly what is going on at what time or something, like when someone has to be around for a match
it was really shitty to have to stay around the venue for over 12 hrs for the tf2 tournament, and get like an hour or two of break when we had a lot of downtime waiting for matches anyways
i think there needed to be at least 2 mge servers set up or a dm server set up, since there wasn't enough room in the initial mge server, as people already mentioned, the crits were awful as well
it would be cool to actually see reserved seating since it was really hard finding people at the venue rather than just looking at a map to see where people are
i personally liked the tournament format of bo1, although it was really confusing since i kept forgetting we were using the euro format. i don't think there were whitelists enabled because i remember i couldn't go sniper because the item server broke and i was stuck with my machina from playing highlander pugs and didn't want to use banned weapons
having some dedicated servers for pugging with everyone having rcon would have been neat (or at least having a lot of people with access around) since people had to host their own servers and sometimes things went very wrong or people were forced to pick others because they were hosting the servers, i think a lot more pugs would have went down if we had more access to servers or something idk about bandwidth things or not restricting that though
i also think there should have been more notice about the gxl.lan site since i only found out about that site within the last 3 matches i played in lol, i think over 70% of the people participating in the lan didn't know it was a thing and we were just waiting to be given info from someone else that did have access to it
chairs were pretty bad, but i was kind of used to that set up since my table is raised at home as well
i was terrified of getting splinters from the tables as well, but it ended up not happening so i guess it was okay for me @_@
yeah i'm not sure if i can make it out to anymore lans for this year, but i'm going to definitely be trying to start saving up money to attend gxl again next year although idk if i'll be competing again since over 12 hours of tf2/waiting for matches was a bit much for me since i just wanted to hang out with people
thanks for all the work you guys put into the event :3
