Tried disabling my fps config, setting settings to low in game (and commands to disable ragdolls / shadows), still crashing. Tried dx9 using b4nny's dx9 config, still crashing. Help!
Nothing special in launch options (complete launch options are '-w 1920 -h 1080 -console -novid -fullscreen'). I am using the surfaceproperties thing and no explosion mod. Had the same version of Windows on the other PC (Windows 10 64bit Education).
Nope, I've got a gigabyte 1070, not a strix 970, but I guess they're quite similar. Have you done anything specific that made it happen less?
Since I've been using a new PC I'm getting random crashes to desktop, 'hl2.exe has stopped responding'. It crashes like once every two maps or so, but the strange thing is that it's only crashed while playing scrims, but not a single time while playing pugs (crashed ~10 times in 14 maps of scrims, but 0 times in 6 maps of pugs, I guess it could be a coincidence but it seems kinda odd). It seems like it's more common on certain maps (only recall crashing on gullywash / reckoner / badlands) but that might just be a coincidence / me not remember things properly.
Using Comanglia's stability config in dx8. I tried the following commands to fix the random crashes
mat_queue_mode -1
cl_threaded_client_leaf_system 0
mat_clipz 0
But nothing changed. Not getting any crashes in other games / stress / stability tests or w/e so I don't think it's my computer not being stable. Specs are the following:
i7 6700k @ 4.4GHz
Gigabyte G1 Gaming 1070 (played using this GPU in my previous PC aswell, which worked fine)
16GB 3200MHz DDR4 RAM
Windows 10 64bit
Clean install of TF2 (/clean install of Windows) , only thing I did is add my config. I haven't crashed using dx9 in MM so that might fix it, but I don't really wanna play in dx9 (and besides that, I also never crashed using dx8 in pugs, so that doesn't really mean anything I suppose). Tried using different fps configs (can't really name them since it's just configs I got from other people, they're probably edits of comanglia's config or something anyway), but it happened on every single one I tried.
DamnEasyKaptainSo what you're basically saying is that it's our fault no one can counter our playstyle and thus just copies it instead? I'm sorry we play to win, I guess?
I'm not saying its your fault nobody can counter it yet, but I am blaming you for not trying to change your playstyle, I know you want to win but are you guys having fun sitting in a choke for 30 min spamming?
It's not like we love spamming chokepoints, but if you're in a playoff game, it's 6v6, even uber, you would just uber in and hope for the best? Unless the other team is awful that's not an exchange you should be able to win. I'd rather play boring and win than play "fun" and throw the game.

Nope, not an issue. Thanks for all your help, I think I can figure it out from here!
Oh, as for aesthetics nothing special, just a black box basically. Something that looks like this, or preferably with a window.
@Setsul
For the case, support for cable management (no idea if this is standard but there's no space in my current case for it at least) and decent airflow is most important. A window would be nice, it's not necessary but if it doesn't cost too much then sure.
I'll get the ASRock Z170M Pro4S (since it's available / cheaper) then, whatever brand 2x 8GB 2400MHz CL15 RAM, and the Samsung 850 Evo 500GB.
Do you have any recommendations for a PSU / an aircooler for the 6700k that'd allow me to overclock a decent amount?
Pretty much just a home system, not planning on moving it / taking it to LANs or something like that.
