SetsulIf it's still a paste and not dried up it's fine. Depending on the paste it can't even dry up.

So you can use to reapply the thermal paste on an old cooler.
A new cooler should come with new thermal paste or even preapplied paste so using that will obviously be better.

that is the case with the Corsair H60 I installed, I just used the reapplied paste it had for now, but I'm having difficulty overclocking my 8700k beyond 4.5Ghz, so I though replacing the current thermal paste with something higher grade would help.

This is probably a dumb question, and I couldn't find any definitive answers online, but does thermal compound go bad or have an expiration date? I have a tube of arctic silver 5 that's still like 3/4 full cuz I only ever used it on two CPU installs, but it's probably a good 4-6 years old; do you think it'd work the same, or are there any agents inside of it that go bad over time?

morwannegbLathis is the second time you've called furries social rejects/mentally handicapped in the last 3 weeks. i really don't see a reason to consistently attack groups of people who've almost certainly done nothing wrong to you. live and let live.wanting to have sex with anthropomorphic animals

that's not what furry means, at least among furry's

aecoughPeople who take the time to vote for which map they truly want up next in dm instead of just pressing F1

This has always caused issues in source games, or atleast where mods for source games are concerned

often the vote for the next map is tied to the number keys, so if you have any binds or a cfg that utilizes these keys, they're automatically utilized to vote for a map I didn't even see and only briefly popped up for a fraction of a second.

I swear, that god damn method of map selection was the reason I had !revote bound to a key for nearly every valve multiplayer game

Anyhow to stay on topic, this might have been mentioned already, but I appreciate Soldiers/demos on MGE who don't prefire as soon as I respawn. I understand it's a valid tactic, and if it's like an MGE tournament for money or something that's fine, but this isn't quake dude, you don't need to practice spawn fragging people on blands spire

#14 Fragging origin in Off Topic
sacThe breakdown of discipline, including fragging, was an important factor leading to the creation of an all-volunteer military force by the United States and the termination of conscription. The last conscript was inducted into the army in 1973.[8][9] The volunteer military moderated some of the coercive methods of discipline previously used to maintain order in military ranks.[3]:18

The Unites States technically does have a, "Volunteer Military", but in times of war that goes out the window, if we went to war with any other nation and needed bodies to fight the war conventionally, there would almost certainly be a draft.

Now, the extent of how lenient they are on a draft would definitely vary, however as the need for soldiers increases, the leniency on accepting those with disabilities/detriments starts to turn very grey

https://www.webopedia.com/TERM/F/frag.htmlThe word frag was first used in the Vietnam war, but there is some discrepancies as to the meaning of word from this time. Some references point to it being used to describe a soldier who was brutally killed by a grenade, while other resources state "to frag" is a term used in wartimes to describe the use of a fragmentation grenade "to cool the ardor of any officer or NCO too eager to make contact with the enemy".

SetsulFYI you got very lucky because of the different 24 pin connector.
The ATX 4/8 pin and PCIe 6/8 pin are usually the same because let's be real here, there's not that many reasonable pinouts for half +12V, half GND (and 1/2 sense wires for the PCIe that everyone abuses for more power or just ignores completely) and even if they were different the only other option is a straight up short circuit. In that case any decent PSU will refuse to start and you should be safe. I wouldn't try it though.
However if you had been able to connect the wrong 24 pin cable then now your mobo, CPU and possibly GPU would also be dead.

PSU OEMs generally try to foolproof the cables for example by using 8 pin on the PSU side for the PCIe cables and 6 pin for the SATA/peripheral cables. However that doesn't prevent some people from shoving 6 pin connectors into 8 pin slots or using different cables (I know you just didn't want to recable everything).
The only OEM who seems to have figured out a solution is Super Flower. They use 9 pin connectors so their own cables will fit in any slot (and whatever pins aren't needed just aren't connected to the cable) and other cables won't fit at all.

I know that this doesn't help you at this point but someone else might read it and benefit.
The only thing that can help you now are backups.
I hope you've got backups.

Nah I don't have any backups(although maybe I should look into that) but I only fried $200 of equipment and all the data on those hard drives is either recoverable from other sources or unnecessary. Not a big deal, I actually have a backup 512gb SSD and 2tb hdd that I wasn't using so the $200 is a fair price to pay for the learning experience
