#66 Coach to i58 maybe unfair? in TF2 General Discussion
MR_SLINAll I'm saying is, sure people might suck at using coaches right now but who's to say that they can't be better utilized in the future? Coaching and in-game comms could get organized to the point where it actually is a huge advantage, and I'd rather not head down that road.

Let's just kill in-game coaching right now to save us the hassle. We're already seeing similar things happening in other esports, and that's because the developers want the experience that you and I have in matchmaking to be the same as the experience that pro players have on stage. These games are about which team can field the best 5/6 players not 6+coach.

I think in game coaching give too much of an advantage. I don't know if this comparison can fit the arguement but think about football (or soccer for the Yanks) each team has a coach which obviously gives directions mid game but its not like the coach can call everybody over and say well now we gonna do this and this. Half time is made exactly for that and i think that having a coach is fine but limit it to him talking between maps. I mean stalemates are a big thing in comp TF2 especially in 6's. So the coach gets way too much time to confer with his team in those dead moments. I mean players don't have to focus a lot during stalemates and so they can pay attention to the coach. Im not saying we should remove coaches but limit their power

I mean i think i58 could have ended differently without coaches.

Exactly i mean if you are focusing only on strategy, uber tracking, you do it exxeptionally well because you dont have to focus on dm skill and staying alive and making plays.

Well bringing a seventg man for Crowns was a breeze cause they had a sponsor but for the rest of the teams especially Froyo thats a lot of money to find.

#1 Coach to i58 maybe unfair? in TF2 General Discussion

As i58 wraps up, well done to Crowns to for winning the tournament, I thought about how in my opinion having a coach gave a team an unfair advantage. I mean i am not saying it made a huge difference cause most of the games were pretty close. Kaidus himself said it after the UBF "I call everything" "i coordinate what to do next". Kaidus is a great TF2 player and has been main caller for a lot of time and i think that gave Crowns an unfair advantage. i mean think about it for a minute ok? Six players are playing a game of TF2 and they have to concentrate on: playing well and not making mistakes.
The coach only has to focus on the errors and what to do next. I think its a pretty noticeable advantage.
If players are under pressure due to atmosphere and the setting this may lead them to make errors but with a coach that reduces to a minimum because he has to focus only on what to do next and not on playing. For example a team has successfully defended last point and wants to push out they forget a player is alive in the confusion and killfeed and leave the point undefended. Outcome: Backcap and round loss. If a team has a coach he can one, calculate who is alive cause he doesn't need to focus on killing people, two, notice the threat of a backcap and therefore tell the team to leave a man on the point.

This is not taking any merit away from crowns because they played well all tournament. This is my opinion and would like to know what the community thinks of the matter.

#27 ESEA Invite Season 22 recap in News
MR_SLINAnother way you can do that makes it a little more balanced is to give the UBF winning team (i.e. froyo) a 1-0 lead in the first bo3. It's an advantage that isn't too large to overcome. The downside is that it puts less emphasis on winning the UBFs, but you still get an advantage.

one map advantage isn't a very big advantage because if the next map favours the underdog team there is the UBF final advantage gone. I think it is pretty fair and balanced as it is now

KevinIsPwnDefinitely not too generous. Giving anything less would be punishing a team for winning early in the playoff upper brackets, which (obviously) doesn't make sense.

I can see what Dolly above us is getting at. He means that if you win the UBF it is much easier to win the Grand Final because you are already 1-0 in bo3's . I can relate to that but ESEA has been running like this forever and nobody has ever complained because it is only right to give the team who won the UBF an advantage. It is up to the team who has the advantage whether they are gonna cherish it or throw it away. The underdog team having lost the UBF has to fight if it wants to win. We have seen that both scenarios can happen in the last 2 seasons. Froyo won both but it was in two different situations.

DollyMumait wasnt a problem for us s21 where we rolled them both best of 3s tho...
If you're winning nothing is a problem :)

I don't think nobody would have complained if they lost. You win UBF you have advantage whether you use it (S22 Froyo) or blow it (S21 Ronin) its up to you.

phoroforKylo_renWait a sec wtf is wrong with the results posted here?? I'm watching the vod now of the match and 1. second map ain't granary Pro its process and 2. thats some seriously fucked up map durations, Process lasts for about half the stream and the stream is 3 hours long. Can someone clear it up?tri changed it last second because we already played granary in the first week of playoffs, and duration is correct. they casted the second map of froyo black vs evl after froyo vs ronin ended

All clear i was at 2-2 froyo-ronin when i posted this. All clear thanks for the explanation.
