I actually was putting my headset on backwards the first time I tried to use it lol.
maybe it's a balance issue in windows?
Metalworks guide will be up in full in ~ 3 days.. Also added a general guide to scout - Will be making a medic guide of a similar type that should be ready in a day or two.
If a team is playing aggressive you have 2 options.
Out aggro them, run under their bombs, focus down their scouts or demo (map and team dependent), stay together and never look back.
If that doesn't work.
Play like the absolute most gigantic weenies that have ever existed, barely go to mid, wait for their first player to attack and focus the closest thing. If you still manage to give up the first death, pull your medic immediately and suicide theirs with your 3 remaining available combat classes (the one guy has to leave with the medic for building purposes).
bummppppp? It is hard to make the ruckus with only 5 nerds.
Sc2 is fine, they have soooo much content, when WCS is running you have 24/7 content. Prize pots have actually gone up slightly recently. MLG and some other orgs have seemingly discovered that you can stream 24/7 as well - there's always at least a few hundred people tuned into reruns at any given time, sometimes more (depends on if there's anything else on).
Sc2's numbers are weak this week because it's Korean Thanksgiving so there's literally nothing going to be happening for a few days besides WCSEU.
I *can* tell you that attendance is really not that high day to day for the team leagues and sometimes for individuals. For a while there Innovation was drawing huge crowds, but then that kinda just fell away as he starting losing a bunch.
back when I was an admin for UGC we discussed hosting an ultiduo tournament.
Ultimately it's very easy to deal with teams that don't show up on time by being draconian about start times and handing down forfeits quickly, it's much less noticeable especially if there are oodles of teams wanting to play.
I'd say a 30 minute time limit wouldn't be that bad - lets say it's a 32 team single elim bracket thus: 32/16/8/4/2 for a total of 5 matches played. Assuming there's a 15 minute break between each match, you'd end up with something ~4 hours. If we just played standard matches you could potentially double that time, especially given half time breaks. I'd still be down though. 8 hours of tf2 would be sweet.
As far as the bracket goes killing and a 1-2 people would be all that would be needed; you'd just need a guy to procure communication between the various teams (as to who will play whom), servers (unless you just wanna have people use their own), and update the bracket (all pretty easy stuff).
I really like the idea of raffle tickets as a funding mechanism too - although that'd entail some work for a coder somewhere to get that all squared away quickly.
I don't care if each match takes over an hour and I'm playing tf2 until 4 am I will do this thing. Just last night we were talking in mumble about the lack of weekend cups in tf2 lol.
typically what kills teams is this:
They become convinced that MGE/DM mod and how many 1v1s they win (since that's all that most combat classes experience objectively) is directly related to how good they are. As opposed to actually learning how to play the game.
So, those who fail just say "meh I'll DM more" or they quit because they don't have time to DM more. The others make it to IM, the ones that play the hardest will eventually make it to invite where they are inevitably crushed by the wave so to speak, because now it's all too apparent that they've never known how to do anything, so they just pack it in, quit the game, or change classes.
You have no idea how many people I've run into who've had 2+ seasons of experience in ESEA who had less understanding of how to play the game, and why certain things are done, than somebody who cursorily watched LAN once.
- a silent mumble stays silent so talk all the time, but make sure you're not being overbearing
- always always always know what ubers are looking like, even if your medic always knows/is supposed to know.
- pocket is the best position to main call because he can peek the most corners and call positioning quite easily thus seeing the most things(a scout or buffed roamer can do this on the flank as well).
He's also my second favorite person that I've ever cast with on tf.tv.
Mad men will be playing in main with some different pieces and in different positions from my understanding.
Really driven to improve, has a good attitude as well from as much as I can tell.
well... open will be smaller out of hand because of IM and M being born - lots of players and teams getting sucked into that that wouldn't normally be there.
