#8 Insomnia61 format revealed in News

Friday, August 25th

15:30 BST: Group A Round 1 (two maps)
15:30 BST: Group B Round 1 (two maps)
17:30 BST: Group A Round 2 (two maps)
19:30 BST: Group B Round 2 (two maps)
21:30 BST: Group A Round 3 (two maps)
21:30 BST: Group C Round 3 (two maps)

I think you meant group B round 3 at 21:30.

yerLerbIs there anyone with a better understanding of this layout that can whip up a quick diagram to make it easier to visualise? Or is it essentially a standard double elimination bracket (in the later stages at least) cause I know what that looks like.

GL and HF - can't wait to see some EU gimmicks, even if there's a limited amount of Americans to annoy with them.

It is two four team Round Robin groups to determine seeding into a full double elimination tournament with the top teams of the open groups added. So the 8 teams from the invite bracket face the top 8 teams of the open one.

http://comp.tf/wiki/Insomnia61 has an ok diagram although the double elim tree isnt very well detailed.

#21 i61 teams preview! in LAN Discussion

So the writers are so busy that it took them a week to write the ozfortress news post. For the LAN post, TFTV may not have the inside info that they might have had previously. But the groups were published last sunday, the last spot in the invite groups was decided on tuesday.

If this home of competitive tf2 cant produce a news post in 48 hours then you need more news writers. I work with etf2l, I know that volunteer run websites can be chaotic and slow to get things done. That 48 hours is based of essentials twitter account, Id assume as an established website and the close nit nature of the scene TFTV staff will have known the 7 teams in the invite group for a lot longer. See Toms comment.

This is one of the highlights of competitive tf2 for this year people will forgive if a news post on an Invite/Prem roster move is late or not covered. If you do not cover one of the two "big" lans this scene has then you are 100% failing as your role as a news website and "the home of competitive tf2".

If tftv wants to stay as an actual news site and not just memes then they need to make news or people will go to other sites such as essentials, else they will just be the home of shit tf2 memes.

This is directed at tftv staff not Jon.

Ieebecause separating things in tf2 has gone so well in the past, why not try it with coverage of lan

To be fair to essentials it isnt like tftv are covering the event and essentials are competing with them. TFTV staff seem to want to pretend it doesn't exist. They are being petty because they themselves are not producing it.

#3 i61 invite group is going to be kinda bad in LAN Discussion

Given that se7en lost to a svift/aF mix quite badly in the grand final I dont think assuming that if Se7en would go it would increase the skill of the group is at all correct.

Also go into it with an open mind, im sure it will still be fun to watch and dismissing the lan before it even starts is disrespectful to both the teams and the people producing the stream.

#10 Essentials.TF One Night Cup in TF2 General Discussion

i had a look at the registration and as you have to provide a roster at the signup is it possible to change the roster before signups close?

#19 Let's talk Faceit in TF2 General Discussion
sagewould it be possible to improve the classlimit system so people cant do tricks to have 2 demos or 3 scouts ?
also dont enforce cl_cmdrate 66, people with bad connections might want something lower

AFAIK the classlimit system is ingame, and has been broken since implementation by valve. The only way to enforce it is with a server plugin like old pub servers used to have to prevent too many snipers.

#28 Mixchamp died? in TF2 General Discussion
Starry_Nebulae...

There are other issues as well, such as still not supporting koth.
I agree that faceit has a lot of potential but its devs seem to work at the same speed as valve when it comes to fixing issues and are slightly better at communication.

Then there is the ever difficult challenge of how you get players to move over. TF2Center did it because tf2lobby died and it offered better features. Pugchamp did it because it offered a captain draft which pickup did not. Stadium couldnt do it as it was basicly a center clone with a few minor additions. So if faceit want to get an active player base they need to have something no one else can offer, maybe the items/faceit points will be it, however it needs to be at the same level as pugchamp and tf2c and have the items/points before most people will move over.

#7 Is TF2Pickup ever coming back? in TF2 General Discussion
oyeawhy not just try to improve pugchamp?

The thing is that pickup was more like mixchamp but with a few small differences, such as medics could pick one person to be on their team. The real issue is player base, even if pickup came back pickup lost a lot of people to pugchamp when that came out and I doubt a lot of people would go back. So pickup could come back and really struggle, however I really would like pickup to come back as it was an actual good HL pickup site as well as a good 6s one.

#26 Mixchamp died? in TF2 General Discussion
wfaceit has the right approach. the only problem is its player base

would it be possible if pugchamp did something similar to esea cs pugs with rank S being reserved for top players, rank G as a promotion system and the rest being A,B,C,D

There was when it started, but no one played it due to lack of players so now everyone is in the same pug group leading to the issues that REM decribes.

In my personal experience I sympathise with REM, I have been many a time in similar situations and it is only possible to play a pugsite that isnt the mess that tf2c/faceit are by playing medic on pugchamp or hoping the site is active enough for there to be 2 or 3 pugs going on at the same time.

#15 Playoff predictions in TF2 General Discussion
DigyI'm pretty sure that the etf2l tables don't automatically calculate the tiebreaker scores so some of the standings might not be final i.e underdogs and team coolestmaster are still tied so unless someone wants to do the math then we wont know for sure who is in until the playoffs blog post

This is correct, you also cannot do tiebreaker scores till all games have been played so both low and open cannot be calculated until all games have been played. There is also the possibility of match complaints affecting standings which is why we do not release tiebreaker scores until we are sure they are correct.

#6 Help with my internet in Off Topic
Starry_NebulaeMy Ethernet works fine at least. However I'm still concerned about what happened to my Wi-Fi because it was working much better just recently than nowadays.

If it is a recent change it could be because of interference caused by a new network. If your router offers it make sure you are using 5GHz. However if you are stuck on 2.4GHz try using a program like wifi analyzer to see if the channel your network is broadcasting on is particularly cluttered.

If that doesnt work or you do not have access to your routers settings, see if any new wireless devices have been added recently nearby and try turning them off one by one.

Starry_NebulaeMy Laptop is always plugged in and it lag spikes regardless of heat. Sadly I can't move my router to a higher place but I play near my router so it shouldn't be that big of an issue.

Consider investing in a laptop cooling pad, they are USB powered stands with fans in. They helped me reduce temps when i was on a laptop

An option that was worked really well for me is powerline, worth looking into.

JarlowOh my Lord what is happening? Rip g2, VP, and SK

G2 havent played their game against tyloo yet?

Either you know something I dont or you meant fnatic.

and tbh the SK game was a far bigger upset than the fnatic game if you had been following the last few events.

it certainly looks worth testing. I agree with the earlier statements that there does seem to be too much high ground around last.

I also found a few issues which are in this album http://imgur.com/a/Fmesw

The hiding spots I found arent massive issues but the one above spawn would be very frustrating to die to. The one above 2nd is more of a personal choice if you want to keep them.

#2 Packet Loss Only In TF2 in Q/A Help

Are you sure it is only happening in tf2, it could just be that due to your network settings in tf2 that you notice it more.

try using the ping command in cmd to see if you are getting any.

try something like ping google.com -n 100 or replace google.com with whatever IP you want to test.
