blinKYou can't use flat textures like that because it gives you a clear advantage over your opponent. You should be playing with the same settings as your opponent in a competition.
That's sort of silly to say that, TF2's textures are already simple yet there are a ton of problems some people have with vision that gives you an advantage over them. Some people have to turn up their gamma and colour vibrancy because their colour vision is not good enough to distinguish ground from player, or they are colour blind completely. Personally I need to wear strong glasses because I am very near-sighted. It would be easier for me to play if I had perfect vision and did not need to wear them. But I also have a 120hz monitor, which is an advantage. You can't quantify competitive advantage someone has over someone else from their point of view. Even so, there are people who play in DX8 even though it makes it harder to see stickies and make out characters, that doesn't necessarily make them worse because of it.
In order to let people make custom map textures with sv_pure, valve will have to enable filtering only on the material properties files and not texture files but block lines such as opacity and individual face properties. I guess it's possible if they really wanted it to be, but it might take a lot of effort.
Why no soldier skill enhancer? Seems like a wasted opportunity.
You'll never notice it unless it's really bad because your reaction time and mouse movement will match up to your aim. I own the 120hz acer and a 22" LG LCD as my secondary monitor, both from about the same generation. I do not notice the difference in input lag between the 2, it's impossible to tell side-by-side even after using both for several years in that way. I also tested an older 30" TV and a high-end Sony Trinitron CRT. My current monitors are an improvement over both in input lag.

And then infestation spreads over half the map mid game.
Suddenly, 15-20fps.

Can you do the opposite, force super scaling by rendering a higher resolution? Might help some CPU-limited computer maybe.
