KalkinOdissiusWhy can't they be more open-minded/progressive regarding the use of plugins?
ETF2L allows the use of plugins in their divisions, whether they be transparent viewmodels or increased FOV (and they have had zero impact on the way the game is played).
ESEA will never allow plugins. Things like increased FOV do give players advantages over other players and are outside of developer intent. If TF2 will not allow you to it do within the engine by default then ESEA does not want you to do it either. We may balance the game through things like class limits or weapon bans, but we won't actually change what you are able to do within the scope of the engine.
If you believe that allowing players to have 120 FOV has zero impact on the way that the game is played I believe you you should play on 75 FOV for a week.
I never said anything about 120 FOV. Not to mention that no one would actually use that because it distorts the game too much. Actually quite a few invite/premier players play with lower resolutions so targets are bigger and easier to aim at.
ETF2L has proven with their lenient stance on the use of plugins that allowing optional FOV plugins does not change gameplay in anyway.
Quite frankly, it is an absolute joke for a "competitive" game that involves a lot of vertical/z-axis gameplay to have a limit of 90FOV. No competitive FPS involving z-axis gameplay has ever had that low of an FOV cap in the past.
It's cool though, I'll prepare my angus for the inevitable -frags because people will get extremely emotional, whilst forgoing logic, and think it will somehow change the gameplay in a drastic way and that they will have to adjust their playstyle.
TF.TV, the only forum where you get -rep'd for being right.
