They do this in dota during the international as well for the same reason. No real reason why this shouldn't be enforced

Can you post an example? I can't recall something like this ever
Screwballgarrappachc It's just extremely difficult to maintain the code. How hard would it be for them to scrap the whole thing, port the resources over to source 2, and start from scratch like they did with DOTA 2?
Not sure but we're working in valve time here, is that really what we would want to wait on?
ZestyI've never really understood that the "varying class limits is counterintuitive" thing.
You could actually get fairly reasonable class limits close to what we have already by using 2 for attack classes and 1 for defense and support classes.
This actually sounds like a really good idea

I love the instrumental but I'm not really a fan of songs that do this low voice thing. I'm sure that's kinda the point of the song cause it's called drunk ambience but I just don't feel it
SpaceCadetHypothetical Question:
If a TF2 major appeared with prize pools comparable to CSGO, what do you think would happen to the competitive community?
All the players who are in OW right now would return?
Many old faces from the past would return?
The primary reason they left is because you just can't make any money off tf2. So if there would be multiple tournaments like this per year then yes I'd imagine they'd return. If it's just one valve funded event per year but all other community tournaments are still just around the $10k mark then it might not be worth it for most. Either 1st place at tf2-international or you're still stuck.
The concept of highlander isn't that bad. I just don't like playing it as a med main cause it's way harder than 6s in terms of not dying to bullshit
Geel9Hats = skill
That has been the way of life for much longer than 3 years
remember when lange quit the game because he said valve didn't care about the game. That was like 2 years ago or something. The truth is they probably care but "they" is a team of like 4 people and they aren't good at the game, don't really know what they're doing, and aren't large enough to make a big difference. Which is why our best hope is just a new tf2, a sequel with a big dev team and a competitive-minded approach
I didn't mean to say that I think removing the concept is a good thing, I just don't know how we can get the same limits for every class if we don't balance the classes closer together so scout soldier demo and med aren't always good. Whatever change we come up with is probably going to be as close as we can get to 6s while making valve happy if class balance remains the same
MR_SLINNakadafor #2 I think a class limit of 2 works for most classes but not demo, medic and maybe heavy. Does it seem like valve can acknowledge this and make those classes have limits of 1 or will all classes have the same limitsI think step 1 is to figure out how many players need to be in the server. 12 seems like a decent number, but there's still some doubt (i.e. Sigafoo is hosting a 14 player per server tournament). Once the server size is determined, you can balance the classes so that you don't need class limits of 2 for some classes and class limits of 1 for others.
Remember that arbitrary class limits and weapon banlists are something that we came up with because we have no direct control over the game. The developers can always solve this with proper class balancing.
Could we balance the game to the point that the concept of generalists and specialists is mostly gone? Like maybe demo and scout just become average classes instead of god tier, and then we can see if 1 class limits for some classes are still needed
for #2 I think a class limit of 2 works for most classes but not demo, medic and maybe heavy. Does it seem like valve can acknowledge this and make those classes have limits of 1 or will all classes have the same limits
ok but why would anyone want that, dota and cs were tiny and then valve supports them and now they're huge
Sorry for being clueless but what does a "grassroot esport" mean? I want to answer the questions
nopeNakadaWhat is the incentive for someone like me who doesn't break the rules and spam in tf2c chat to play on a service that is basically the same thing but with less players? I don't mind their ads as they're not disruptive. I don't mind that idiots are getting chat bans cause I'm not breaking the rules and I have never had any trouble with a mod or admin ever.not support jerks who do stuff like this and think they can get away with it.
if you think it's only 'idiots breaking the rules' who've been banned from the site you're sorely mistaken, people have been banned for doing things like taking a slot in a lobby that masternoob wanted and not giving it to him when he demanded it etc
The tournament thing is shady but it doesn't really affect my ability to play lobbies. And Honestly if someone being banned for not giving up a slot is some horrible atrocity to you, then I think the majority of users of tf2c have become spoiled. They run a free service to organize lobbies for the community and haven't asked for ads until recently. They rely on donations for server costs and stuff, and there's no doubt that the creator has spent a lot of his time into developing the site. If he wants to play a slot on his own fucking site and you're not donating the least you can do is let him play it
