#12 Keyboard Again:/ in TF2 General Discussion
SAO_CM Storm keyboards are built by the same oem that does Filco keyboards, and are of the same quality.
CM Storm KBs are also a lot more affordable.
Only con with them is the ugly keycap font (preference), and the logos (preference).

Newer batches don't have branding.

#8 Help with mic situation in Hardware
Stochast1cAssuming you have headphones that you enjoy, then I would recommend just getting a mic and an adapter so that you can plug in both mic and headphones.

The standard cheap but good microphone is the Zalman clip-on:
http://www.amazon.com/Zalman-Zm-Mic1-Sensitivity-Headphone-Microphone/dp/B00029MTMQ

To plug in your mic you will need an adapter which I would recommend this:
http://www.amazon.com/Syba-SD-CM-UAUD-Adapter-C-Media-Chipset/dp/B001MSS6CS

Yeah I have heard people tell me that mic was good a while back. But since I use auto transmit with mumble and have an MX blue mechanical keyboard, I feel like having a mic with no mute button and clipped lower might be problematic.

Will that adapter have negative effects on the sound quality vs the internal sound card? Or would it be negligible?

toothYou might want to research this a bit more than I did, but it looks like the GameCom 780 is Mac compatible. In the top review the guy says it works fine for him on OSX.

http://www.amazon.com/Plantronics-GameCom-780-Surround-Headset/dp/B006ZS5ATM/ref=sr_1_16?ie=UTF8&qid=1354985695&sr=8-16&keywords=usb+headset+mac

I saw that a couple days ago as well. It looks good, but it's a bit more expensive than I was hoping for, but if that's my best option in the end I will buy it.

Also Mac compatible shouldn't be an issue, I just play all my games on Windows at the moment

#1 Help with mic situation in Hardware

So my current setup for mumble is a fucking disaster. I use this shitty USB headset that is falling apart, and only has one speaker ear, so I have to do some weird shit passing mumble output through the crappy headset, and in game audio through speakers (but in my room situation I can't bring speakers to a volume I'm happy with). I'm surprised I've tolerated it so long.

I'm looking to find a new mic to use, but there are several problems:

I play on a Macbook, which uses that single 3.5mm jack that I assume is a combined input/output (I don't know much of anything about audio, if anyone can clarify). I have a pair of 3.5mm headphones that I'd be fine using, but that obviously creates a predicament if the mic is also 3.5mm...

Another important point is that I use autotransmit, so that means a mute button is a must, and also I assume that means desk mics are out of the question.

Now my ideal setup would be to have a usable mic while also having over ear headphones. I'm happy with my current pair of over ear headphones if I could find a usable setup that used them. Likewise I'm fine if I have to buy a new USB headset or something and not even use the headphones, as long as it's decent.

My budget is <$50, but I would prefer to spend much less than that. I really don't have a preference analog or USB and I'm not an audiophile or anything. I just want a setup so I can play comfortably with a microphone. If anyone has any advice it would be appreciated, thanks.

#3 they made another in TF2 General Discussion

Shouldn't they just do like a "Top 10 of the last 6 months" or something? Otherwise I don't see how they're going to catch up unless they get more people working on it.

That being said, great watch as usual!

#8 Hours Played in TF2 General Discussion

I believe the stats page is your time alive as each class (meaning time spent in respawn, spectator, not connected to server, etc. won't count), and the hours on your profile is how long you've had tf2 open. Both can be relatively inaccurate sometimes though.

#46 New matchmaking site similar to Tf2lobby in TF2 General Discussion

OP do you know what framework/backend you're going to use?

Just checking whether this is vaporware, considering you're new to Steam and TF2, and all you posted was a page with some html tags and some extremely ambitious ideas.

You need to add some sort of mumble integration to this or something. Like a mumble server (or several) dedicated to the site, maybe a one time alert telling people to install mumble, and then open a mumble://server.com/ link when the game starts.

#6 Ping Problem. in Q/A Help

Open command prompt and type tracert, space, then the IP (minus the port).

I had this problem a while back connecting to a friend's Atlanta server from Chicago, if you haven't changed internet settings (and the server is running normally) then it most likely means a node in the path you usually take there is down, nothing much you can do about it but wait. Contacting your ISP would be rather pointless as nodes are constantly monitored.

#221 feelings thread in Off Topic
tranchemusicThat sounds like last summer, when I had to be up at 6:30 for work every morning but my roommate watched tv at movie theater volume every night until 2 AM. Terrible house with paper-thin walls, too.

Living with d-bags sucks, man

Walls? Wish I had those. >.>

The sad part is I took a look at his twitter, and he writes that I'm a "cunt" for wanting to sleep at midnight before an exam (an exam HE ALSO HAD). He also writes that I'm a "fucker" for not being able to sleep with lights on.

Meanwhile he is taking easy classes and making no attempt to make new friends. If all he wanted to do is play video games with high school friends, I don't get why he pays out of state tuition to come here.

My roommate is playing shitty xbox games like NHL and screaming and laughing to his friends over the microphone. He does this every day sometimes for 6-8 hours straight. I'm never able to study in my room, but even when I go to the library and get home at night he stays up til 3 A.M. with lights on doing homework and typing and clicking his loud shitty laptop trackpad all night.

I want to punch him in the face.

#11 why am i getting so many ping spikes in TF2 General Discussion

Monoprice are well known for having reliable cables. They have 50ft and a bunch of other lengths.

http://www.monoprice.com/products/product.asp?c_id=102&cp_id=10208&cs_id=1020812&p_id=2158&seq=1&format=2

Although I guess a negative is that shipping to Canada would probably take a bit longer.
