#16 hows the weather in Off Topic

Europe here, 15°C ~ 60°F, haven't seen snow for 2 months.
Stop keeping all the winter for yourself NA!

Yeah, the weather is fucked up right now.

Idk, rebadges or OEM, solder quality and voltage regulation is definitely worse from what I've seen.
Seasonic Platinum 1000W
XFX Pro Series 1000W Black Edition

Btw I'm actually using that Seasonic one right now. Ripple suppression isn't really impressive (due to the design) although 50mV wouldn't look bad if it weren't for the voltage regulation. 0.3% ... 0.3% average WTF. Sadly the X-1250 wasn't available 0% on both minor rails and <30mV ripple is pretty good.

If I were to buy a PSU now I'd probably go for a Superflower Leadex Gold, voltage regulation <1% or better and <15mV at 2/3 the price of a equivalent Seasonic unit.

XFX PSUs are good but generally lower quality, apparently they are cheaper because they are rejects. Basically if it doesn't meet Seasonic's standard (solder quality, voltage regulation, ripple supression, whatever) it's being sold a bit cheaper as XFX unit.

Yeah, the CX430 is a decent CWT unit and pretty much unbeatable at that price.

40$ for a >600W seasonic rebrand? Get that thing fast!

Cheap and decent quality if you don't plan on upgrading to more power hungry components -> CX430

You'll be fine without an anti-static wristband if you take a few precautions:
Ground yourself before you start building or even unboxing. Touching an uncoated pipe of a radiator (or anywhere else where you could ground a wristband) is the preferred method.
Don't wear clothes with too much plastic in them.
Don't build on a carpet, use a table or any other clean, flat and non-conductive surface.
If you have touched something that is conductive or might have been electrostatically charged, ground yourself again.
I tend to wear shoes with rubber soles (no nails in them) that won't charge up even on carpet, but that's just me being too lazy/forgetful to wear an anti-static wristband and at the same time being afraid of killing hardware worth a few grand.

You can add one fan to the TJ08B-E but the temps should be fine with the one included fan, because it's a relatively small case.

The Fractal Design Core 1000 or 3000 are pretty good, cheap mATX cases.

There's thermal paste included with the 212 Evo and it's actually decent, you really don't need a better one.

Anti-static bags only protect stuff inside the bag, even if you turn them inside out they don't do shit* if you put hardware on top of them.

*well they do if your workplace is the source of the charge, but then your hardware is getting fucked sooner or later anyway.

The thermal paste that comes with the 212 Evo is decent. There's no point in buying thermal paste for 7$ for a 30$ cooler, you'd be better of buying a 37$ cooler. If you already own a high-end air cooler and want/need those extra 2°C it does make sense, but 70$+ coolers tend to come with equally good thermal paste.

It's not a "HORRIBLE" idea it just doesn't do anything.

Didn't even read that he recommended arctic SILVER, conductive TIM is really a thing of the past (with the exception of CLU, delidding YEAH).

Don't worry, it won't explode and you can always but that stick back in.

Haven't found anything yet.

Have you already tried booting with only one stick (sorry if I missed the answer to that one)?

Wasn't expecting anything to change, it just shouldn't be running at 1.65V.

I'm suspecting that the mobo is trying to use Dual Channel even though the DIMMs aren't the same size.

I'll have to read the manual so please be patient.

Set the voltage to auto or 1.5V asap.

Which asrock mobo?
Which slots are you using right now?

I don't even know what's more unsettling about this picture, dual channel ram with two differently sized DIMMs or the lack of a northbridge.

Have you already tried booting with only 1 stick?

Could we get screenshots of the "SPD" tab (all slots preferably).

cheaper and better GPU
cheaper PSU from a proper manufacturer (not ...max) that at least won't randomly catch fire.

Upgrading the CPU usually means that you have to upgrade the motherboard as well, so spending a bit more can't really hurt.

4770K with a 7870XT looks a bit weird, 4670K and a 770 seems more reasonable.
Proper CPU cooler. The 212 Evo is a exceptionally good cooler, for a 30$ cooler. The sad truth is, a 30$ cooler won't get you anywhere in terms of overclocking Haswell.
Mobo with WLAN.
semi-modular PSU (although a better PSU couldn't hurt).

#4 PC Upgrade in Hardware

The CPU is pretty much the only thing that matters for TF2, you could even play with the intel integrated graphics (at least the newer ones). That means you need a new motherboard and a new CPU.

More RAM won't do anything.
A better GPU could improve the performance in other games, but not TF2.

Think about it, if you're getting fps drops because your CPU is too slow, why should a better GPU improve performance? It won't magically make your CPU run faster.

My bets are on the swap file(s).

With <10GB left you should start deleting stuff you never use or get a new SSD anyway.
