ScrewballThey haven't existed for 10+ years. The hd558s came out in 2010. I got mine in 2011 and they did not survive to see 2012. Granted i'm rougher on my headphones than most people but my usual failure point is cables. I have never had another 100+ $ pair of headphones except for my 558s fail in this manner. They use thin cheap plastic where they shouldn't. IDK if that is to reduce weight or cost but i can't personally justify buying them again or recommend them to anyone else.
I'm not saying they are bad headphones. Im saying they are overrated, overrecommended, and overpriced.
well the hd 555s which are essentially the same thing have been out for a long time, but yeah obviously they didn't fix the cracking 10 years ago in that case. I definitely remember reading about the problem being fixed a few years ago when I was a big headphone nerd though

that said I would recommend hd558s and I'm pretty sure the only ones that crack are 10+ year old ones, they fixed the cracking problem years ago iirc
as for amp/dac I don't think it's necessary to spend a lot on them. I think you should get separate amp/dac if you're not spending much though, as I said earlier I have topping d30/a30 and they power everything fine so far
osvaldoIirc, these Akg were only a massdrop limited edition thing. Is there a place where I can still find them tho ?
They are still dropping on massdrop and they're all over Amazon/eBay. If you can't get them, q701/k7 whatever are just as good, they're pretty much all the same thing. I've tried quite a lot of different cheap and expensive headphones and they're my favourite. But I'd definitely second going to a store and testing out whatever you can (lol can).
I use akg k7xx and topping d30/a30 and I don't think you can do much better for the price (or any price tbh).
Shiftamastercomsfull, w, h and refresh should do hurt, as they can force non-optimal video modes for the material system. It's better to set video settings in the options.
Okay, I'll get rid of those.
I got rid of them and my game was completely fucked. Insane screen tearing. But I put -refresh 144 back in and it seems fine. Funny that I've seen so many people insist you don't need that command.
Also still takes a long time to alt+tab.

What are your specs and OS?
Okay, I'll get rid of those.
I5 4690, gtx 970, anything else? Windows 7
mastercomsShiftaNah, definitely removed it.What's your full launch options?
-full -w 1920 -h 1080 -console -refresh 144 -novid -nojoy -nosteamcontroller -noff -nohltv -softparticlesdefaultoff -reuse -primarysound -snoforceformat -swapcores
ik the refresh command is pointless but I don't imagine it hurts
edit: I'm also getting the occasional microstutter that I wasn't getting without a config
aslDid you forget to remove -dx_level 95 from launch options after first boot? That's usually the main culprit for long alt-tab times.
Nah, definitely removed it.
I switched to this yesterday after using no config/hud since the pyro update and it takes quite a bit longer for me to alt+tab now. It's not a big issue but it's quite a bit slower. Any idea what could be causing it?
