First realized in 1996, Quake DM servers.
Still fragging, still improving.
I'm so old.

As of tonight, I increased my DPI on my mouse from the lowest setting 2 notches higher. I am not sure of the value but it should be over 1000 at this point.
I only experienced stuttering once tonight. I played in about 10 different serves. It happened on a DM server and it was not as bad and unplayable as before. It looks and felt like an improvement. I guess more time and testing will tell.
wareyaHaving a mouse polling rate below your refresh rate will in fact cause stuttering. Just being above it will be fine, but to get the maximum benefit it should be above double your visible framerate (has the same effect as reducing the visibility of tearing by increasing rendering framerate). Normal mice have a 125hz polling rate, which is over double 60fps.
I use a logitech G400 mouse so the polling rate by default is ether 500 or 1000. I think both values are high enough if I understand correctly.
DrakeMegrimDo you have an AMD video card? If you have a NVidia then you should be using Lightboost and drop the refresh rate down to 120.
If you aren't using a frame rate cap then do so. I had the same issue with my monitor because my fps would jump from 1200 to 200 during intense fights and stutter. Try something like 300.
I have an nvidia card but I have not really thought about switching over to lightboost. I may go that route as a last resort.
frknNo, we're talking about ESEA Invite S14 LAN Finals
Which ESEA teams are going to the i49 games?
Honestly, if you are into RPG's that are not all about "eye candy" you will find the Geneforge games to be incredibly rewarding and fun. Geneforge 2 in particular was one of my favorite games of all time.
I still play today just to create something different with my characters. The game's endings are based on your character choices throughout the game so it can be a different ending almost every time you win the game.
Sorry to be ignorant but when you refer to LAN, you are talking about i49 right?
reillyAre you playing in Windowed (/noborder) mode? I get stuttering issues in windowed mode. I managed to narrow it down to 2 things: disabling aero, and stopping any sort of video media playing (OBS preview, youtube, something in VLC). When I do both of those it essentially eliminated the stuttering, although I don't have much of an idea as to why.
I do not play in windowed mode. Widescreen with 16:9
jp_What's your mouse's polling rate and DPI.
If it's below 1ms (100hz), raise it to it.
Try increasing your DPI to see if it helps.
I had no idea your DPI could play a factor. I happen to use the lowest setting DPI for my mouse, 400. I had trouble tweaking my sensitivity at higher DPI settings. I couldn't get the feel just right for RJing. Either I would turn too much or too slowly.
However, I will try this and if it fixes the stuttering problem, I will put in more time to find the sensitivity to move normally.
Thanks for the suggestion.
Predator 2
An advanced species with crazy technology, a cloaking field, training and instinct to hunt and kill.......however he can't frag Danny Glover.
WaldoTry playing a 32 man pub and see if it also happens, it's probably related to your game's performance, so it should be really severe if you play 32 man dustbowl or something.
I have played in a lot of large 32 man games since my monitor switch and I have never experienced stuttering in those pubs.
The only time I stutter is in smaller games like 6's scrims and DM servers. This stuttering does not happen that often, maybe 20% of the time.
Originally I had my FPS MAX set to 0. I could get upwards of 500 fps at times. Since then I changed it to 350. As I walk around the map and the FPS changes, could a drastic change in FPS cause stuttering?
If I have to set my FPS MAX, what should the value be? I run a new computer with a good graphic's card and the 144hz monitor.
downpoura similar thing happens to me since i OC'd my cpu (or since an update around steampipe), after my pc is left of for a day or two it starts happening, restarting my computer is the only way i can fix it or else it just gets worse as more time goes by
I don't think you and I are having the same issue then.
I can play in a MGE server or a DM server and everythign is smooth and then go into a scrim and have my game start to stutter. Even if the map is the same as the previous DM server.
I have to wait to go test the MAX FPS possible fix but it is curious how the stutter can happen with a simple change of server.
I wonder if that could be the issue. I have my fps capped at 350 in my config.
I recently bought a new ASUS VG248QE 144hz monitor. I have no real problems with the monitor outside of TF2 and I love it. My TF2 problem is a stuttering effect I experience at times. I am unsure how to fix it permanently. Sometimes it goes away on it's own and sometimes I have to just play through it. I do have 144hz enabled and I believe my general TF2 settings are all correct.
What I experience is: Every now and then a stuttering as I move my mouse around in certain areas of the map, mostly on middle points. The stutter's are very fast and small. Meaning that I can still somewhat aim but the stutter can ruin a rocket jump and make general play not enjoyable.
This stutter does not happen in every single TF2 game I play. Most games are smooth and completely perfect. I have heard that some servers can cause this to happen because of how they are configured. Could this be true?
This stutter was not happening with my previous 60Hz monitor. I am wondering if there are certain settings I need to change because of my upgrade to 144Hz? Over the last 2 days, I did try and enable Vertical Sync in TF2. This did make the stuttering much less or go away in some cases but the lag I experience in my aim and rockets was unplayable.
If anyone has experienced this or has fixed this any help would be greatly appreciated.
Would like to tryout for Pocket Soldier
