I don't think the game sorely needs anything. It's the most popular sport in the US. It continues to thrive even with our economy being in the shitter.
I dunno, to me it seems like Roger Goodell is starting to go drunk with power.

You hit the schedule button, you propose a time and a server. If they propose a time and server before you, you accept, or you deny and make a counter offer. Very simple. If there is no schedule button, your match isn't close enough so it won't allow you to schedule yet.

I think the problem actually comes from uncapped fps. Try capping it. (i know this isn't true for joining other servers, but when hosting your own it becomes a problem.
