TimTumThanks, with your VMT I managed to get the GIF on badlands. It's not very clear in this video but it is moving :) https://imgur.com/a/dIQc1va
As you can see there are still some issues, but it's nice to know that it's possible. Could you maybe share your VTF you used for the skybox? Maybe some of the settings of my VTF are wrong.
For anyone else that wants to use this in the future, the issues go away when you remove some of the lines in the VMT:
{
$basetexture "skybox/skybox_up"
$hdrbasetexture "skybox/skybox_up"
$ignorez 1
$nofog 1
Proxies
{
AnimatedTexture
{
animatedtexturevar $basetexture
animatedtextureframenumvar $frame
animatedtextureframerate 24
}
}
}
It works now :) https://imgur.com/a/Fo9YoIo

YeeHawwhat if you made the sky box green and green screened in the gif
Yeah that's an option for sure. The reason why I want to try to do it ingame is because I'm not really very experienced with video editing and (if it is possible) I feel like it's easier to only make the skybox once and apply it to every demo, instead of editing it for every clip afterwards with a green screen.

The background in these videos isn't really what I'm looking for. What I'm trying to do is using still images in a box just like the ordinary skybox, but on these images I want some stuff to be moving. So the entire skybox/background shouldn't be moving when a player is moving its mouse like in the video, just a static image with something animated within that image.
I was wondering if it is possible to create an animated skybox to use it in Lawena for example. I've tried to import this gif into Lawena, but it doesn't move and only shows the first frame of the GIF sadly. I feel like I need to use an VMF to tell the game there are multiple frames like in the main menu background, but I have no idea how to apply this for a skybox, if it's even possible at all.
Does anyone have experience with this or any ideas maybe?
Last weekend there was a discussion in the ETF2L discord about this topic where some of the admins, mainly Aoshi, responded to a few messages. I think the most important ones people want to see are these:
I'm not that into trace but these are some of my favorites:
Hopefully there's something for you. Last one is something different than what you linked but I really like it:
Nice idea for an article, but I feel like these numbers and graphs are pretty much useless cause the part where the data is missing or unknown is just too big. For example is the increase in equip rate for the solemn vow because medics couldn't even use the weapon due to the whitelist on the server, were the medics not open to try something different, or maybe the classic 'the other medic is using it so I have to use it as well'.
Most valuable information are the opinions of the medics, and to make fun of someone who has a different opinion than the others is just stupid, cause he's only giving his opinion.
Maybe another idea would be to swap the nations cup and the highlander season around. This way there aren't three different things overlapping and the main seasons and group stages are separated. The only thing you can't really avoid is the playoffs of a season/cup overlapping with the main season of the following season. But I still think people would rather have things overlap than no 6s season at all.
6v6 Nations Cup #8
Captain Application: 26th July – 14th August
Final Groups: 15th August
Group Stage: 16th August – 4th September
Playoffs: 6th September – 25th September
Highlander Season 22
Signups: 2nd August – 26th August
Premiership Qualifiers: 21st August – 30th August
Final divisions: 29th August
Main Season: 6th September – 9th October
Playoffs: 11th October – 30th October
6v6 Season 37
Signups: 13st September – 7th October
Premiership Qualifiers: 4th October – 11th October
Final divisions: 10th October
Main Season: 11th October – 27th November
Playoffs: 29th November – 18th December
Rafff6v6 Season 37
Signups: 25th September – 16th October
Premiership Qualifiers: 11th October – 16th October
Final divisions: 17th October
Main Season: 18th October – 4th December
Playoffs: 6th December – 18th December
you have to move this 6s season back by one week though, cause 6s playoffs usually take three weeks instead of two. but this shouldn't matter that much cause not that many people play in the final week of nations cup playoffs anyway.
just noticed that this will overlap with the last few weeks of hl playoffs, as well as nations cup playoffs, which might be a little bit too much
Nations cups have always overlapped with 6s or highlander. Separating them without any reason is unnecessary and only means that there won't be enough time for the 3rd 6s season. As bloodis said less than 5% of the players actually play in the nations cup, so it won't affect highlander that much anyway.
Rest in peace, condolences to his family and friends
