#11 Newbie Mixes in Events

I believe so, but I think there is a European newbie mixes group now:
http://steamcommunity.com/groups/nlpg
http://steamcommunity.com/groups/nlpg2

Anyway, as long as you don't mind the ping and time difference and can speak and understand English, I don't think non-NA players will be excluded.

EDIT: haha got ninja'd

It's always nice to see new players interested in 6v6. Hope you have fun and learn a lot! If you want a little more advice, don't be afraid to ask questions and don't get discouraged even if you don't do well.

You can join no matter what your hours are. Just keep in mind you're there to learn. Follow the rules and listen to the coaches and your teammates and you should be fine. Also, you will need mumble and a mic.

#2 Newbie Mixes! in Events

If you're new to the mixes, you're probably going to be picked first by the admins so you shouldn't worry too much about wasting time in mumble, but in pre-game the coaches might have to teach players rollouts, calls, etc. so that extends the time. The mixes are usually balanced, but sometimes they do end up having one team dominate the other. I would still allocate around 30-45 minutes since the waiting time in pre-game can last a while. If you really need to leave, that's fine since there should be people able to sub in. I would recommend going into mumble a bit earlier than the start time (9 EST/6 PST) so you'll be there for the first mix. And don't be afraid to talk to the admins about your circumstances.

#7 open LF demo and soldier in Recruitment (looking for players)

I know all of them quite well from pugs and they're a fun group to play with. They may not be the most experienced but they are really dedicated. Give them a shot!

<3 all of you gamers on this team

#5 Open team looking for players and subs in Recruitment (looking for players)

bump, could use more demo tryouts. we have at least one tryout scrim tonight. already have too many scouts trying out, so I won't accept those, sorry!

EDIT: We need backups too, preferably ones that can do scout/demo/med. don't need any roamer subs

#1 Open team looking for players and subs in Recruitment (looking for players)

I convinced my team to go into open and we're looking for players and subs. We're looking for scouts, roamers, pockets, or demos. Most of us have known each other for a while in UGC, and we're finally moving into open.

We have a sponsorship by lucrative so everything will be paid and one of our members has some extra money that can be used for other things. Keep in mind that if you are a starter or when playing in a match as a backup, you must use the MAD LUXURIOUS avatar.

Right now, we definitely need a scout and most likely a demo/roamer, but we can switch classes around if necessary. We're also looking for subs for all classes except roamer, but we probably need a demo sub more than anything else right now.

EDIT: We have enough scout and roamer tryouts for now. You can still add me or Franken but I can't guarantee a tryout. Okay so we have like 8 scouts lined up for tryouts so we can't really take any more. Sorry! Still okay with taking other classes though. No longer accepting scout tryouts, we have enough scout tryouts already. We have our roster set. Possible backups are welcome, though.

#1 Tirlby lft low-mid open scout/roamer in Recruitment (looking for team)

Hi, I'm looking for a low/mid ESEA Open team that needs a scout or roamer. I would prefer scout but I can roam if needed. My UGC 6s team doesn't seem to want to go into open, so I made this thread. I talked to my teammates and they are willing to go into open, so I'm no longer looking.

I've played for like 4 seasons in UGC already, so I really want to move into open. Also this is like my 3rd try (pre-season esea/cevo teams died), so please give me a chance to try out.

I am on the East coast and can play after 7 PM EST on most days. I might have highlander, but if it does conflict I believe I can be relegated to a HL sub.

I have played competitive since UGC season 9 of highlander, and started 6s in season 12. I have also started pugging a lot and I attend newbie mixes. I think my mechanics are okay but I might need to work more on my aim. My gamesense and movement are probably my stronger aspects.

Thanks for reading.

#43 On the future of comp tf2 and NA 6v6 Newbie Mixes in TF2 General Discussion

Yes, the pugs can be run without mentors (and they have been, usually when there are not enough coaches), but the mentors still show up to provide feedback and hang out with the newer players. This means that lower level players have a chance to connect with higher level ones, which really doesn't happen much apart from newbie mixes. Sure, there will be people who just show up once, but there are also plenty of people who return every week and appreciate the coaches. SAAM basically said it already, but having someone to actually talk to, who you might look up to, will provide a better sense of interaction. Videos are totally fine but you lose the person to person connection that you would get if a coach spectates and comments on your play. You also get to know your coach on a more personal level since you can directly communicate with them. It's about the connections the players can make with one another, just as much as introducing them to competitive TF2. The lower level players should not be alienated from higher level players. Newbie mixes provides a place where they can come together.

#39 On the future of comp tf2 and NA 6v6 Newbie Mixes in TF2 General Discussion

I had typed up a pretty long response before I accidentally left the page, so I'll just try to get to the gist of it.

Slin, I agree that mentoring can be unrewarding. However, the newbie mixes allow players to not only get feedback from coaches, but make connections with them and other newbies. They are meant to introduce players to 6s, and provide a place for more experienced people to play. I've made friends that I enjoy playing with from newbie mixes, and I've gotten to know some of the coaches too. It's basically an open pug group and I think it's important to keep it so newer players can have a place to meet new people and play pugs. Since the community is so small connections are quite important. Honestly the newbie mixes are more about hanging out and playing with other people; the learning aspect is just an added bonus. People who enjoy them will stick around and come back. So through the mixes people will get the chance to try out 6v6 if they're new, and continue playing it if they enjoy it. Basically, newbie mixes are better for introducing the game to newer players than tf2center, and are a way for people to play pugs that aren't as high skill as tf2mix.

#1 Scout and Roamer lft low open in Recruitment (looking for team)

Hi, my friend Shamblez (now Foxx3y) and I are looking for a dedicated low open team (ESEA or CEVO) to play on, as roamer and scout respectively. We don't have any previous experience in ESEA or CEVO, but I do have UGC experience in silver 6s. Since we don't have too much experience, we're willing to listen and learn. We want to see if we can eventually make it to open playoffs as our first goal.

We're both on the East coast and can play after 7 PM EST on most days. I am 18 years old, and Foxx3y is 17.

I have played competitive since UGC season 9 of highlander, and started 6s in season 12. I'm also starting to pug in tf2mix. Foxx3y has no formal 6s experience, but he has done lobbies on TF2Center and plays a lot of MGE. I think my scout mechanics are okay but I might need to work more on my aim, and Shamblez wants to improve his overall skill with all classes, but mainly roamer.

You can add either of us:
