With the season slowly coming to its end, the stakes are getting higher and higher. If the top three spots of the tables are already secured (even thought the final order is still uncertain), the last qualifying ticket for the playoffs is still up to grab. And both Ascent.EU and Nunya should be the two main contenders for that fourth place.
After an unexpected and somewhat disappointing loss against Da Choke Bustaz last week (4-2), Nunya missed the opportunity to overtake its next opponent, and is now on the hot seat. Any new misstep could kick the team led by Eemes out off the race. But the last time the english demoman was under pressure to perform was at i61, and it was already against an iteration of Ascent.EU, already against Elacour and Credu. With that in mind, the possibilty of Nunya winning this game just became a lot more solid.
On paper, Ascent.EU seems more fit to compete in the playoffs, mainly because of all the close games they had against the better teams of the Premiership. But to conterpoint that, one may argue that the team recently picked up by Ascent didnt managed to beat a supposedly weaker team, Weebtunnel Tactics. So will Elacour pull off the sick pipes and Corbac the nutty bombs ? They will have to if they want to have a chance in this matchup.
Other point of interest, this week's maps are the two less known ones of the mappool, Sunshine and Reckoner. Nunya lost Sunshine in its Week 5 game, while Ascent.EU never played on it in an official game. The element of surprise could work in favor of Nunya, but maybe the boys from Ascent put their time to good use and will come into that game with that extra preparation.
The winner of this game would make a huge step forward, almost securing the 4th spot in the playoffs. And the loser will only have its eyes to cry. High stakes, thriving-under-pressure gamers, odd maps, possible tilt and crumble, this game has everything it needs.
