#22 Good PS2 RPGs? in Other Games

I'm a massive fan of FFX and recommend that to everyone, but other than that I can strongly recommend the Shin Megami Tensei series.

Lastly, might be a bit of a stretch but Mega Man X: Command Mission is actually a pretty good game if you're a fan of the mega man universe. The timing-based combat is pretty fun and engaging too if you give it a chance.

#2 Mother's Day in Off Topic

My mom recently had very serious oral surgery and had to have more than half of her teeth replaced. While her mouth heals from the surgery, she is only going to have the top left quarter of her teeth, so me and my brother pooled our money together to try and buy enough Ben and Jerry's personal pints to last her the next 3 months until her mouth heals and she can get new teeth. love you mom, thanks for never telling me to stop playing so many videogames and go outside!!

I'm really happy that in an online-only season the top teams will actually be not coming out in the negative for once

_KermitYeah it's pretty cool, the any% change in oot was huge and completely unexpected which is probably the coolest thing about it. There's apparently gonna be 100% route changes in mm too, won't see them really till summer though.

Seeing how destroyed OoT has gotten since I've started following it in 2010 has been an experience. It just makes me sad that any% is so dependent on rng now to the point that it really isn't runnable anymore; people said "any% isn't a category" after wrong warp was found, now it really isn't even a run, LOL. Similar to what happened to super meat boy any% where you play 9 levels and then beat the game, or vvvvvv any% where you can finish the game in 31 seconds. At least the other OoT categories are still competitive, it's such a great speedgame, such a beautiful accident.

#13 oPlaiD on Matchmaking in News
Valve is leaning towards using a smaller number, to start, according to Yangsheng and Larned. It’s easier to match, say, a total of 12 players for a game, especially without the highlander class restrictions, or any class restrictions at all. The company doesn’t think the playerbase can support two separate queues, at least for now; the idea is, if matchmaking kicks off, to allow players to queue for multiple game types. Highlander fans, your time may come, but you may be stuck supporting a smaller game mode until then.

_KermitSigs been grinding like fuck on stream recently, I'm expecting to see him have the record again in the near future.

yeah i saw, i hope he does, that'd be such a great resurgence of competition into the speedrunning scene. after the recent OoT any% breaks it's fell off pretty hard in the scene, but Ennop recently lost the MM record, he got it back but phil and fgg aren't far behind. It's great to see the big name speedrun games still trading off records after all these years.

rowrowI still don't understand why valve thought the short circuit buff needed to be that extreme

davidthewin makes a valid point, they had no data to use for their buffs/nerfs. Valve is a company that listens to it's consumers. they stopped that whole paid mod thing after just a few days. they got the majority of their input from the community from the steamcommunity forums, and we all know what goes on over there....

Lunacideid be fine with playing a different game mode if its more fun than 6v6

but i dont think thats gonna happen

I just feel like 6s flows so beautifully, and it's incredibly competitively viable. So what if it doesn't use all the content in the game? So what if there are items or classes or maps in the game that aren't played at the top level? I can't think of a single fighting game at EVO in which all the characters are equally balanced and are all played. Likewise with certain attacks, they just aren't particularly good for one reason or another. It's okay to take the most optimized, most skill-based, and most "fair" parts of the game and compile them into a competitive format.

And the best part if they don't even have to come up with anything new! It already exsists, it's already optimized, they just gotta throw it in the game and bam, we're esports

ComangliarowrowAs far as deciding class balancing in a 6s format, class limit 1 decided by each team could work, which would naturally be limit one medic and limit one demo
Could you imagine playing a turtle team of 2 Engineers, 2 Heavies, 1 Demo, and 1 Medic?

I understand they want all their classes to be viable but the problem is that all the classes are viable, they are just viable only in their own particular little niche. Heavies, engies, and pyros are extremely viable in defending against last pushes, and snipers and spies are good at creating picks in times of desperation. They just completely suck at moving fast enough to capitalize off of 10 second death timers, or people being weak when the medigun heals at 24hps. And that's perfectly fine.

ComangliaWould be interested in seeing 7vs7 or 8vs8 being picked up by Valve, but tbh I have no fucking clue.

we used to have 7v7 with two demos...it was... horrifying

then again that was the old old demo with indestructible stickies, i suppose it could potentially work better post-nerf but the thought still terrifies me
