It seems the regular 660 has a higher clock, while the Ti has more 'stream processors', whatever those are. Google's being cryptic at the moment: seems like no one's got a clear answer.

The difference in core clock is about 50 MHz, is this worth $50? Or is there another card I should be looking at?

Have you tried the standard stuff: defrag and verify? Keep net_graph 2 open and see if the net goes whack on the parts where the game hangs and see if it's really not the internet.

Have you set your anti-virus to exclude the Steam install directory? Some anti-virus programs will periodically scan stuff.
