Computer broke

So my computer broke last Thursday and all the open programs at the time froze so I shut down the computer by holding down the power button, and when I turned it back on it would freeze at the logon screen and would not login. We ran a test and it said it was a hardrive failure, and idk what caused it. This happened last June to me but an older model of my laptop. Does anyone know common causes to this so I can prevent it from happening again?

People have this weird thought that good fights are exchanges of blows (which isn't the case) but a good fight isn't going to have a lot of really crazy hits until the end.

Lauren Hill was diagnosed with terminal brain cancer in sometime of her senior year in highschool. She had until December of 2014, Christmas was uncertain for her. Her one wish was to play in a college basketball game (Division 3) and score. November 2nd she did, and another game shortly she scored again. After that she was forced to quit basketball and wait, but she didn't just wait for death, she started her own pediatric cancer research foundation to donate to children with cancer. She raised an astonishing $1.4 million. She died earlier this morning, RIP and condolences to the Hill family.
