#98 cevo/esea in TF2 General Discussion
prangIt's so stupid to say "I'll play CEVO when it has proven itself." or "I'll play in 3 seasons after it gets good." Without people playing in new leagues, without a willingness to TRY to have a better league, we are never going to get something better than ESEA.

CEVO doesn't need to be better than ESEA this season. Most of your open players are interested in giving it a chance though because the alternative is paying money to play in a league that didn't give a shit until 3 days ago.

ESEA has been providing TF2 with a league to play in for 15 seasons, how many of them did you participate in?

#1 Help with new team name please! in TF2 General Discussion

So i'm keeping the roster from Quantum Flux from last season. I'm not sure if I want to keep the same name since I usually come up with the super serious names instead of the fun names. I could use some help if anyone has any good suggestions. So far the best our team has come up with is "Grandiose" and I don't know how i'd even turn that into a tag.

Names that i've happened to like are:

NIL8 - Annihilate
AoN - All or Nothing
KiN - the Kindred
Veni Vidi Vici (I came, I saw, I conquered)
Mind over Matter

Ya, idk. Help please.

#7 Would you be interested in South American scene? in TF2 General Discussion

Please unban powah from your leagues so he can stop head shotting me in critical moments, and then you will get a very loud "YES!" from me for my interest in SA. If he's been playing here for 10 seasons without being banned then he shouldn't be banned from your community.

#173 ESEA PROMOTION in TF2 General Discussion
SpaceCadetMy team basically joined CEVO out of necessity. Was CEVO our first choice? No.

A week ago there were 3 teams in ESEA Open and posts were being made saying there might not be a season at all. That left teams like mine hanging in the wind. We wanted to play ESEA but didn't want to risk not having a season at all so we joined CEVO to at least have a backup league.

In all honesty, I can't take CEVO seriously at all right now. So many people are talking so huge about this league and in 3 hours registration closes and they only have 27 teams paid up.

In any case this season, for right now CEVO will be seen by many as the minor leagues. It might be a little fun to play matches there but unless there are some distinct divisions made separating the teams then I don't see it being serious competition for a majority of the league. Only the upper teams are going to feel the real competition. 2 divisions is not enough.

You can go from zero to hero over night. It's about the time you put into getting better as a team. Meat market was just a season old I believe and now they're in main. You get the right core in place, really learn the game through practice and demo review, and you control your own destiny. That's how it is in a lot of games. If you don't put in the time you will get shit stomped. If you do put in the time you'll at the very least have competitive matches. Get a mentor and stay focused on certain goals. If it's your first season i'd say your goal should be to survive til the end and get into the playoffs. That'd be a successful season and it's definitely doable. There's always 1-2 powerhouse teams but there's 16 teams who get to playoffs. "Before you can learn to succeed you must first learn how to lose" - Great quote by somebody.

I happen to agree with everything marma's saying. He's being even more blunt than I am which is pretty blunt, but I can respect that.

We're not saying CEVO is bad or CAN'T be better than ESEA.. But the key word here is in time. As of right now it's not the premier league for competitive tf2. Maybe after a few seasons of working out the kinks and getting things together it will be. As of right now there's absolutely no good reason to switch leagues. Play in both if you have time too. I think ESEA should still come first, it's still our bread and butter, and still our LAN and exposure ticket.

We have some of the best people in our community getting the CEVO thing kick started which of course is creating a lot of urgency but it's just not the right time yet. I have faith in them that they can create a league that is better than ESEA they just have to make it come to fruition before we just dismiss the best league we do have. ESEA isn't a perfect system by any means, and as many people know I was more pissed than anyone about what happened with the client. Doesn't change the fact that it's still the stable of our competitive community and needs to stay that way for the time being to salvage the real competition that's still alive.

PYYYOURBlink is this your attempt to join mixup? Limiting esea's transgressions to justthe malware client is laughable.

No no Bradley i'm running with tic, chriz, sherm and romeo in main home boyy! Ya digg?

In other news: I'm glad killing stepped it up with the promotions which will make it even easier for new teams to start out. Go gettem!

#125 ESEA's possible demise? in TF2 General Discussion

People freaking out and running to CEVO for no reason. People fuck up sometimes, it's fixable though. It's not the end-all. It doesn't change the fact that ESEA is still our best league and to let it die is dumb and going to really hurt the community. Stop believing in pipe dreams thinking the same top players will be around in 3 seasons hoping cevo turns into esea. ESEA is already here lets focus on ESEA improving. It IS ESEA's fault that this backlash happened but after 15 seasons I think we should give them an opportunity to rid their client of malware and continue providing top level competition. Which they've been doing. Killing has to deal with so much shit if we worked with him instead of against him, things can always get better.

Like I said last season we made it to the grand finals in cevo playing huntsman sniper and spy. It was fun for a change of pace. When it comes down to it though i'd rather play in ESEA for the competition.

You are asking newer players to take one on the chin and like it, though. Open isn't a good deal and it doesn't offer anything except the chance to finance a league that's only particularly beneficial/worthwhile for the higher div players.

i see this posted in a lot of threads and i don't get the logic
why even play a competitive game if you think like this? your money is gonna go to the best players in any league you compete in

Love of the game. Why is there rec leagues or community leagues of many sports? Some of my coworkers played soccer in college and pay to play in an indoor league. Two of my coworkers played college baseball and they pay to play in a softball league. They aren't playing to win money or make the MLS or MLB. They play because they still love the sport, being part of a team, and competing.

Sports are physical games. Some people can't play due to injury, age, etc. Computer games are different. There's not a lot to hold you back except yourself. You can be competitive even in a pub server but if you want to compete with the best in 6's this is your opportunity.

BlaskoblinK Why do we need to let ESEA die as long as they're not running malware on their client? There's a lot of reasons why people are jumping ship.

I've had several Open-Low IM friends ripped off by ESEA in the past. Whether it's getting treated like a piece of meat, getting ripped off by the monthly fee, a super shady press release or having a foreign program that has farmed bit coins.

I'd rather try something new (CEVO) than relive the mistakes of old (ESEA).

CEVO isn't new. It has a worse history than ESEA. It could become the premier league in time but the time isn't now only because it still requires a lot to be done. Shit happens, nothing is perfect, things happen in every division (look at pyours team last season, no exceptions. remember?). You do the best you can to compromise and make it work. And ESEA is still the best league to play in at this moment for many different reasons.

freakinblinKYou want to save $2?Playing CEVO over ESEA Open will save ~ $45 a year. Which isn't completely insignificant for some people.

and i'm not in the don't play ESEA bandcamp, either

Yeah it comes out to 12 cents a day. I know it's steeeeeeep!

Play ESEA.

Say it in your own words. It's important even if it's already been said.
