As a fellow psych med inmate, I do despise the rubber-stamp mental health industry which pushes drugs as the primary solution (I am NOT saying they should never be an option, rather, they should not be the *only* option, and depending on the nature of an individual's depression, the *first* option). Having said that...

What time of the day do you take the prozac? If you are taking it during the day, I'd recommend trying to take it an hour or so before bed time to better incorporate any fatigue that ensues. Also, how long have you been on it, and did they start you out on small doses and gradually increase it every few days/weeks? You will see this recommendation with lots of psychotropic medications, but I have seen very few practitioners follow this guideline.

Have you discussed possible alternatives with your doctor? I have heard many good things, and had good experiences, with Wellbutrin (bupropion). It is an NDRI (Norepinephrine-dopamine reuptake inhibitor), as opposed to an SSRI, so sometimes docs may prescribe it alongside an SSRI or a mood-stabilizer.

In any case, if you feel that one particular medication is not helping you (my personal rule is to wait a month or two, barring extreme physical side-effects), do not hesitate to say so and push for something to either replace or take along with the current drug.
