I don't know if you know what exactly TGS personifies but there has been "random" winners the past two years which gave birth to players such as Pepeday and dashio. TGS is definitely the most random tournament of the year. You can guess on who is going to win other premiers but TGS is definitely the wildcard of the tournament season. These "random" players may be unknown to us but could known in Japan. Speaking of:
Japan Cup 2016 has ended with ZW|GamerBee taking 1st place. In 2nd comes TS|Poongko who has truly started to shine this year as a player. In 3rd is another Cammy in the form of the GGP|Kazunoko. And in 4th we have Rinta an unknown from Japan. The rest of top 8 was MOV, Mago, HM|eita, and Gachikun
Edit:
Thunderstruck 4 ended last weekend with PG|Filipino Champ taking 1st place. In 2nd was local MJ|Gama with his Cammy. In 3rd was Goro_GI and 4th was Strike|Ford Koopa. The rest of top 8 was DSC|Khannibal, TweetingDino, Kusanagi, and Isurus|Pony.
Fighting Fest 2016 also ended last week with local player SP|Crossover taking 1st place. In 2nd was another local player in the form of SP|Menard with Birdie, a character many thought dropped off hard. In 3rd was PandaTV|Dark Jiewa who has probably traveled as much as KBrad it feels now. In 4th is the former People's Champ RB|Snake Eyez with Zangief, still working to make his return. The rest of top 8 was FA|Mono, GAM|DR Ray, SPM| Caba, and Dieminion
I mean Daigo has won 3 tournaments very recently.
OzHadou Nationals 14 ft. GamerBee, Humanbomb, Itabashi Zangief, K-Brad
Lockdown 2016 ft. Ryan Hart, CCL
E-Sports Festival Hong Kong 2016 ft. Eita, GamerBee, Humanbomb, Xian, Kazunoko, Itazan.
It's really hard to say Daigo sucks considering his legacy. He is definitely still a favorite to win any major and has the results to prove it. But for all I know this could just be a meme :).
edit: lol daigo drowned in pools. It's TGS though but still. MOV, GamerBee, Kazunoko and I believe Poongko for winners top 8. The rest is still being decided.
Daigo said he had finally found his playstyle in this game so he will probably start to perfect that and really become the threat he usually is.
I mostly play SF but I also play some marvel on the dl and have been trying out skullgirls which I hear is like marvel 2 but with a million more resets.
Daigo is participating at TGS if that's what you meant, yes.
Yep. I'll just expand on that real quick.
Japan Cup 2016 is happening over the weekend over in Tokyo, Japan at the Tokyo Game Show. Their tournament style is somewhat different where they have a limit of 256 players while having a list of reserved slots for notable players (international and local top players) and the rest of the spots are obtained through a lottery. Basically top players from around the world along with a mix of Japan's finest. TGS is special in that there is never really an internationally recognized player that wins. Pepeday and Dashio in the past two years have won and were relatively unknown until TGS. We could again see the rise of a new Japanese star. Even more amazing is we could see Bonchan take 2nd three times in a row at TGS.

We also have Thunderstruck 4 happening over in Mexico. As most of America's top players are over in Japan or the Domincan Republic it's somewhat empty here in North America. Kusanagi, Flash, and FChamp are the most likely winners over here.

Bracket: TBA
Speaking of the Dominican Republic, Fighting Fest 2016 is happening this weekend as well. We have the usual Caribbean top players as well as some international players in the form of Dark Jiewa, Snake Eyez, and Dieminion. Top 8 should be fairly competitive and a great watch but the rest not too much.

Bracket: TBA
I'll only be watching TGS, sadly, as ToTH is happening this weekend as well. I'll still check on updates of the other two tournaments to update the post accordingly but this weekend I'll have to take a break with watching 4 tournaments a weekend. So unfortunate.
Also Manila Cup is nuts Eita and Haitani sent to losers really early by some Filipino players.
Jacking my own post for the sake of chronological order.
Manila Cup ended last weekend with EG|Justin Wong taking 1st place. This is significant as this is the first time an American has won an event in Asia. 2nd place goes to ZW|GamerBee who I still think people think is a little low key in the new game but he's gotta win at least one event this year. 3rd goes to GGP|Kazunoko who many saw as the most likely top 2 but was displaced by GamerBee (of course). Finally in 4th we have another American in the form of EG|Ricki Ortiz whose Chun-Li play keeps getting better and better. The rest of top 8 were Cola321, HM|Eita, Oil King, and PBE|Don. A couple things to note was Taiwan got 3 in top 8 (GamerBee, Cola321, and Oil King) and also Eita crawling from the loser's bracket all the way from pools to take 5th. Watch it if you missed it it was pretty solid. Haitani was also knocked out early.
Lockdown 2016 also happened over the weekend with a visitor from Japan: BST|Daigo Umehara. Coincidentally he also took first place. In second we have European legend Ryan Hart who also showed off his Guile. In 3rd we have AWS|CCL who is shaping up to be a top European in his own right. Another consistent player in the form of MD|Mister Crimson takes 4th with the combination of both his Dhalsim and Laura. The rest of top 8 are uP|Digos, Alex_Sieg, uP|Twinblade, and Alvin.
The online events for North America and Latin America also happened over the weekend. The winners for those were SOA|Brolynho and PG|FChamp.
This weekend we have two tournaments for you. Manila Cup and Lockdown 2016
