#29 IPL 6 cancelled in TF2 General Discussion
MYLESSaltysally1MYLESdownpourso then, whats the next big comp shooter.
as much as we'd like it to, i dont see tf2 ever being big, its just not getting enough support outside of the community.
and since shootmania seems to be a dud, where does that leave the state of the competitive shooter? in the hands of CS:GO entirely?

VALVE doesn't really support tournaments for CS:GO, they might help the competitive scene with updates, but that's it.

People want Reborn to be the next big thing. Sadly the ESR community likes to shit on anything new from what I can see, except Reborn. If Warsow gets greenlit, I hope it get's a bigger competitive scene. If not, then arena shooters are almost out of the question and that CS is the last PC fps game to be seen in competition until something new comes out.
The end of an era, rip :'(

Not really, FPS games have one thing over mobas, not so much RTS (things can be changed easily) games. All mobas have ONE map, but many characters, once that one map becomes boring to watch, and every hits the ceiling, it'll be boring to watch. I'm not saying that this will happen within a few months, but within like... 3-5 years (tf2 might be dead then, but shooters won't be). Just hope that within in those 5 years that one of us (Fog/Lange etc etc) makes a game that'll bring things back.

having one map doesnt hurt the game. thats like saying soccer/football or any sport will get old because it only has one field

mebCan a marketing major please tell me why Ubisoft thinks it's a good idea to artificially keep their game alive with a $100,000 opening week tournament instead of 10 $10,000 tournaments throughout the course of a year?

I think it's actually like 4-5 100k tourneys + a deal with MLG maybe? Heard from ppl in the SM scene that it is likely to be picked up by MLG, and that ubisoft set aside $1 mil for SM tourneys.

#78 MGE / SOAP Ettiquette in TF2 General Discussion
mustardoverlorddummyblaze gunboats/equalizes vs me all the time in mge, and i sticky vs him. its the best practice by far for demoman in mge, and really good practice for the roaming soldier as well.
I half agree, personally I feel demo v scout is useful as well (or at least it was for me, idk about other dudes)

i only prefer gunboats soldier because i have to juke/reactively dodge their rockets on top of everything else. scouts are harder to hit and you still need good positioning though.

aiming isn't the only aspect of dm. Avoiding damage is huge and if you just sit there trying to hit every shot yet you eat every sticky/pipe then you're not really getting better.

For what it's worth we've been able to beat very good invite teams with phaser on scout and soldier. pick this guy up!

#19 when was the last time we used esea pugs in TF2 General Discussion
MemphisVonlanskyusing esea pugs bring more players and more money to the game. period.
No it doesn't. When was the last time you heard someone say that they are playing TF2 because of ESEA pugs?

It will bring more money yes but not more players. There is currently no reason for a new player to want to play an ESEA pug over a pugna, tf2mix, or lobby.

He worded it wrong but has the right idea. ESEA doesn't bring in any new people to the competitive scene, and I can't say that it will in the future, but if we help grow ESEA-TF2 then the scene might get more recognition and grow from there. ESEA as an organization would also pay more attention and be more invested into the scene.

#83 Br0s in shootmania in TF2 General Discussion

The game is still in beta and they are planning on adding a bunch of stuff to improve movement in the next version according to one of the IPL guys i talked to.

Tf2 is by far the better game imo, but shootmania is a lot of fun to play. If I wasn't playing tf2 i would probably be playing it.

we mentored all of last season, i think this is the first season where the majority of our team isnt mentoring, but yeah were willing to mentor again.

you just wouldn't know unless you added br0 players on steam, people on the team have always accepted requests and mentored anyone that asked. Just because it hasn't been advertised doesn't mean it didn't happen.

I'll talk with the team later and see how they want to handle that, I'd definitely be down to mentor contributors.

I don't think there was any other team, otherwise it would have been a 4 team tourney :P

edit: If people took offense then i apologize, but to be fair we showed up knowing we had no chance of qualifying with that lineup yet we played so that it wasn't a 2 team tourney.

After 2 bo3's it was clear we couldn't even put up any sort of a fight or a good show for the fans. We had 4 more bo3's of our own and 4 more LG/mix bo3s to wait around for, I just think a lot of teams would do the same thing in our situation.

alfunksoI kinda agree with mustardoverlord... I remeber that you messed up the eXtv round-robin thing to classify the teams to send to i46.

Will donate tho if you put up like a streaming marathon or a mentoring session or something.

The extv tourney was scheduled for the weekend after LAN, after finding out that Dave_AC or someone couldn't make that weekend extv rescheduled it to the weekend after which unfortunately mesr and blaze couldn't play in. We tried to get the date changed again but since i46 was creeping up they said they couldn't push it back any further.

I don't fault extv for not accommodating us, but you have to keep in mind that it's hard to be motivated for a tourney without 2 starters who were actually our 2 main callers at the time. On top of that soup only had 1 hour available that day, so we were basically down 3 people and after soup left we just decided it was pointless.

tl;dr extv rescheduled to a day that 3 of our players couldn't play, not their fault but getting 5-0'd stomped in bo3's then waiting around for mix/lg to finish their bo3s just so we could get stomped again wasn't our idea of a fun weekend
